What’s New in Civilization V

In this version of the game, the notifications have taken the form of icons, which makes them easier to find and read. As a part of the changes, a hexagonal grid was introduced on the world map, which allows players to plan their tactics during warfare.

In addition to the changes in graphics, also the changes in the rules of the fight have been introduced. Because the importance of the strategic role of the terrain has been increased, only one unit of a given type can be one hex area of the battlefield. Of course, each unit is marked with an appropriate flag. In addition, an option of shooting the enemy from behind the front line has been added.

The game also provides very extensive diplomatic relations. In addition, in Civilization 5 the player will find free cities. An internal browser has been integrated with the game, which enables the participation of the players in the life of the fans community.

Sid Meier’s Civilization V is a classic turn-based strategy. This is tantamount to the lack of any elements of the game in real time. In the game, the player’s tasks include the need to build more cities, conquer enemy areas and build new buildings.

Compared to previous series editions, there have been such changes as the division of the game area into hexagonal fields (so-called hexes), which is related to the new combat system. It is worth noting that some units now have the ability to attack from a distance of two or more fields. The new version thus puts more emphasis on the selection of appropriate troops and their proper deployment. This allows you to learn tactics learning from your own mistakes. In addition to capturing cities, it is necessary to have siege machines (two infantry units are no longer enough).

One game mechanics that made it through to this installment and that is worthy of mention is gaining experience and developing units (and improving them). On the other hand, the changes include:

  • the mobility of the units and their difference in strength,
  • an option to automatically pass through water areas,
  • the fact that choosing the right technology will accelerate the development of civilization,
  • distribution of the resources into for luxury and strategic goods,
  • the fees for using the roads, railways or buildings in the city are paid on each turn.
