Control

I will admit that every time I hear the folks at Remedy are working on a new game, I pray that it something to do with Alan Wake. Well, while this is not Alan Wake, this is the best game that Remedy has put out since that awesome game. Truly one of the best games to be released in the last 12 months.

The Game Review

What I really like about Control and games from Remedy, in general, is that they 9/10 nail the story and this game is no different. You play as Jesse Faden and she is in charge of a strange place called the Federal Bureau of Control. This place deals with strange phenomena that occur in the world.

The Oldest House is the headquarters of the Bureau and it has become infested by The Hiss which are from an alternate reality and causing chaos. There are many twists, turns, and side missions that flesh things out. As someone who loves stuff like the X-Files and sci-fi, in general, I thought the story was awesome and the less you know about it going in the better it will be.

Control is a great looking game. I actually played this on a standard PS4 and it looked fantastic. However, it did stutter from time to time when a lot of stuff was going on. In general, the visual presentation is great and the voice acting really does bring these characters to life so that you care about what is going on.

Of course, a great story and solid presentation mean nothing if the gameplay is not good. I had a great time playing through Control. It took me around 10 hours to beat the game, but it was so good it did leave me wanting more. Jesse has different powers that she can use to defeat the Hiss.

These powers range from being able to pull up a shield of the ground around her which is cool. To using telekinesis which is just a ton of fun and probably the best use of being able to grab and throw things around since Half-Life 2! As well as her abilities, you also have a really cool gun called The Service Weapon.

This is one of the most fun weapons I have used in a game in quite some time. This is the only gun you have, but it can be altered in many different ways which is neat. As you progress through the game you will be able to improve The Service Weapon thanks to a, not over bloated skill tree.

You as are going through the game; you will be on the hunt for these Objects of Power that are hidden throughout the Oldest House. Speaking of The Oldest House, this is one of the most amazing and unique game worlds I have played in quite some time. It defies our laws of time, space, physics, and everything else and you have to see it to believe it!

I had a great time with Control, so much that I have played through it twice. It manages to have a very interesting story that is backed up with fun and exciting gameplay. No matter if you play on PC, PlayStation 4, or Xbox One, Control is a game that is very easy for me to recommend.
