The Game Review
Resident Evil 4 is a game full of action and intense adventure which requires the players to fight their way through brainwashed humans – that are infected with a mind-controlling parasite – and rescue the kidnapped daughter of the President of the United States. The game is set around the rural areas in Spain.
The title is a single-player game. Players get to play as Leon S. Kennedy, a special US agent that is sent out to rescue the president’s daughter Ashley Graham. The game has a single player campaign mode which can be played whether at an easy level or at a normal level.
In either case, the game begins as we get to see our main protagonist, Leon, traveling to an unknown area that is set to be controlled by the same group which kidnapped Ashley. The players begin outside what seems like a normal small house but are soon faced by mindless human beings who simply desire to murder any outsiders that come into their land.
One of the main features of the game is that the players have to be very observant about their surroundings. This is because the game has a wide variety of items lurking around the map which includes healing herbs that can be combined to make first aid sprays, ammo for guns, and coins which can be used to purchase guns from the merchant.
Moving on to the guns, Resident Evil 4 has a variety of guns that Leon can wield. Leon starts off with a relatively weak handgun which can later be replaced with stronger weapons such as Punisher, Red 9, Blacktail, Matilda, Shotgun, Riot gun, Broken Butterfly (Magnum), Killer 7, Hand cannon, Bolt-action Rifle, Semi-Automatic Rifle, or a rocket launcher.
The weapons along with the items are all carried inside Leon’s suitcase which means that players can only keep a limited number of weapons and other items until the suitcase becomes full.
Similar to most single player shooter games, this survival horror has also two types of enemies namely, the normal and the boss enemies. The normal enemies are the ones that are faced by Leon in between the levels which include the brainwashed human zombies or parasites that can be killed easily.
The boss enemies are encountered at the end of each chapter and include mostly strong enemies that can only be defeated by coming up with a strategy and shooting with strong weapons. The boss enemies include Jack Krauser, Verdugo, Chief Mendez, El Gigante, Del Lago, Garrador, Ramon Salazar, and Osmund Saddler. Each boss enemy is supposed to be stronger than the previous one.
Overall, Resident Evil 4 is a third person classic game that is still considered to be one of the all-time greats. The game also has a remake which is available to play on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
