Untitled Goose Game

Talk about weird games, you do not get much weirder than Untitled Goose Game that is for sure. If you have to put this into a category, I guess it would have to be stealth. Just passing this off as a stealth game though is doing it a huge disservice as there is just something so very captivating about causing havoc as a goose.

How to Download Untitled Goose Game

You can obtain the game from Epic Games Store, Nintendo Store or from Steam (where it should be a little bit later, in late 2020). Click on the Download button. The title brings to mind another game in which you are a naughty animal: Goat Simulator (but in fact, it’s completely different). Read our review of that one as well.

The Game Review

The Story

The story of the game is simple, but also excellent. You play as a goose in this rather quaint little English village and you want to cause trouble. I have always thought that Geese were jerks and this game confirms it. The goal of the game is to complete various tasks which will then let you go to another part of the village where you can then complete more tasks.

Sneaking

You sneak around having to do things like steal someone’s keys, take a person’s hat and make a load of noise in order to disturb people. You need to sneak around and be crafty when you do these tasks and checking them off one by one does feel quite rewarding. A huge part of the fun is just playing as a super annoying goose that just does not care for the people in this town.

It is such a simple concept, but one that works very well. Most of the tasks that you have to do are pretty straightforward. There are a couple that do make you think. For example, you have to steal this one guy’s hat so he has to wear a sunhat. You cannot just flap over there and take it. You need to wait for the right moment to strike! Little things like this do add some strategy to the game.

Each area of the game that you will be in has a list of objectives. Once these are completed you then have one more objective to do, think of this as like a boss objective. You do this and that is what allows you to move on. In all honesty, you can get through the game in just a few hours, but I think that is actually to the benefit of the game.

Untitled Goose Game is one of those games that is all the better for being short. I really do think that if it lasted even just an extra hour that the game might start to wear a little thin and the appeal of playing as this bad-tempered goose would wear off. As it is, you have a fun time as you are playing through the game and then once you get to the end of it, you have a big smile on your face.

The presentation of the game is very smart. I really like how storybook the game looks. It may seem kind of simple at first glance, but I feel this just adds charm to this little English village. The art style for me is just another thing that makes me smile while I am playing this game.

The Bottom Line

Overall, Untitled Goose Game is a very nice surprise. It is a very fun game to play (I played the Nintendo Switch version) and it is certainly great if you want something a little different. Playing as a goose is super weird and so is the whole game, but that is what I loved about it.
