ATLAS is based on an open world role-playing game with a unique pirate fantasy theme. Players get to experience an adventure where they are required to explore, build, and develop in order to reach the top of the tier.
The game is available through early access and was officially released on 23rd December 2018. It is available to play on the platforms of Microsoft Windows 7, 8, and 10.
ATLAS is mainly an online survival game that can be experienced in both first- person and third-person perspective. The game is massive in the sense that it features a huge map that can host up to 40,000 players at one time.
Being an online game, ATLAS features players from around the globe that compete with one another. The open world feature allows players to interact with one another directly, competing in different departments such as combat and construction.
The game begins with detailed character customization. Players get to choose their unique pirates and select their attributes. Once that is complete, players enter the pirate world where they start off at the bottom.
There are different departments wherein players can sharpen their skills such as constructing ships, searching for buried treasure, assembling forts, plundering settlements, creating a pirate army by hiring a crew.
The players start off and they can hone up to a massive number of 300 skills, which allow them to rise up and conquer enemy ships and fleets. There is one goal – to become the most influential pirates in the game. Players have the option to either engage other players in battle or team up together in order to take out a common enemy at sight.
As its genre suggests, ATLAS features one of the biggest maps in the modern gaming era. With over 700 landmasses across 45,000 square kilometers, players can journey throughout the boundaries of the game through different means including ship and boats.
The unique feature lies in the fact that each respective area holds distinct resources that are necessary to progress in the game. There is a separate zone that is meant for those players who want to directly compete against other players in combat.
The combat system in ATLAS is relatively basic. It is mainly based on melee with blocks, parries, dodges, and directional attacks. The weapons involved in combat are bare fists, swords, maces, blackjacks, and daggers. Players have the option to choose whichever weapon they prefer that suit their skillset and strategy.
Despite the effort put in by the production team, ATLAS has been harshly criticized mainly due to the problems and glitches that occur during the gameplay experience. Players have complained about facing numerous routinely delays that cause distractions and in-game losses.
- Diverse gameplay, offering players to master a number of skills all at once
- Both PVP and PVE modes available, allowing friends to compete with or against each other
- Requires high computer specs in order to play
- Too many in-game glitches and errors which causes distortion in the gaming experience
