Black Desert Online is representative of the MMORPG genre. The storyline takes place in the world of dark fantasy. The studio behind the game is the Korean Pearl Abyss. Despite the fact that this is a relatively young development team, some veterans of the industry joined their ranks. The main person responsible for the production of the game is Dae-Il Kim, the creator of such titles as RYL Online or Continent of Ninth. The game was launched on 17 December 2014 and is available on Xbox One and on computers running Windows.

The Plot and the Fighting System
The plot of the game is not drastically different than that of the majority of titles of the genre. We visit a world with a lot of internal conflicts and dark secrets, and our goal will be to join a faction of our choice and fight under its banner. In the beginning, we have to create our character. We can choose between many different classes and races. The gameplay is PvP (Player versus Player) oriented. A major role is also played by the in-game economy.
The developers designed an arcade fighting system. Thus more important than the player stats and items are skillful blows, attacks, and dodges. An interesting addition is the system of combos which lets experienced players maximize the inflicted damage. The players can choose from a plethora of weapons and magic spells. We can choose various swords, axes, hammers, spears, bows, crossbows, or aggressive magic spells. Besides the direct fights on feet, there is also a possibility for duels on horseback.
The World of Black Desert Online
Another interesting factor that adds to the internal diversity of the Black Desert Online PvP system are sieges of towers. During them, the players create catapults, ladders, and siege engines. The economy mentioned before puts stress on the following:
- taking care of the reserves,
- financial stability,
- trade,
- building factories and supporting structures,
- hiring workers,
- building boats,
- breeding horses,
- fishing,
- and crafting items.
And this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Black Desert Online is an RPG production that in a unique and cohesive fashion merges arcade, economic and strategic aspects of the gameplay. Thus the gameplay is quite diverse and allows us to develop our character in the manner we choose. Black Desert Online doesn’t force anything on the player and perhaps because it doesn’t resemble any of the classic MMORPG titles such as World of Warcraft, MU Online or 4Story.
The graphics are extremely appealing, the locations are spacious and the landscapes look like pictures taken with a camera. The designers implement a day and night cycle into the game and the weather system. The models of all the characters and monsters and created with striking attention to detail and we hardly encounter two identical monsters in two different locations.
