Cyberpunk 2077

I wrote my first very Cyberpunk 2077 preview back in 2013! That is how long this game has been in development. However, CD Projekt Red knows what they are doing so most folks have been fine with this very long development time. At E3 2019 (with the help of Keanu Reeves) Cyberpunk 2077 was finally given a release date and a new trailer.

How to Download Cyberpunk 2077

You will be able to download Cyberpunk 2077 when it becomes available in April, 16th, 2020. The go-to places are for example GOG or Steam. Meanwhile, you can have a look at CD Projekt RED’s former creation The Witcher III.

The Game Preview

While we certainly know a lot more about Cyberpunk 2077 than we did a month or so ago there is still a lot of uncertainty about this massive open-world RPG. So, let’s focus on what we do know about the game. We know that this is actually based on a tabletop game from the 80s, but you do not need any knowledge of that to get anything out of this game.

The Setting

It is set in a dystopian city called, Night City which is in California. Night City is going to have at least 6 different areas to it and the overall city looks to be huge. As this is a CD Projekt Red game, it is fair to assume that the city is going to be full of life, missions and characters to interact with. I think the scale of the world we have to play in will not really hit us until we are in it!

The Story in Cyberpunk 2077

The story that has been shown so far is kind of weird. You think you have a handle on what it is about, but then you see or hear something else that makes you second guess. The story sees you playing as a mercenary called V. You have a ton of customization options at your disposal here. This includes picking from a few different classes, gender and of course the way that they look.

Cyberpunk 2077 Trailer

The trailer that was shown at E3 showed off a really sci-fi heavy kind of story and of course, Keanu Reeves being in the game was really cool. You can expect a lot of character development in the game and it has been said that you can form relationships with characters. This is a massive (and I mean massive) open-world style RPG with a lot of progression.

Character Progression

What we do know about the progression is that your character is always moving forward. For example, getting through the main quests sections of the story will get you XP which you can use to level up. You also get what is called, street cred and this can unlock all manner of things ranging from vendors, skills and even more quests. You always have something to be working towards.

The Bottom Line

So far from what we have seen the world of Night City looks amazing. This is a team that simply make amazing looking games. Look at how detailed and impressive The Witcher III is! Cyberpunk 2077 looks even more detailed than that and the whole world really does look like it is alive.

Cyberpunk 2077 is slated for an April 2020 release, which hopefully will not be put back again. It is certainly going to be one of the biggest games of next year. You could probably make the argument that this could very well be one of the last huge video games to appear on this current generation of consoles. Also, there could also be the chance this shows up on the next Xbox and the PlayStation 5.
