A genre that does not struggle for popularity in South Korea, massively multiplayer online role-playing games are about as ubiquitous as grains of rice in East Asia. One of the premier downloadable titles that have yet to make its way outside of that region is Lost Ark Online.
How to Download Lost Ark
Downloading Lost Ark if you’re outside of South Korea can be tricky, it requires purchasing VPN, downloading the game client which can only be downloaded if the system detects you’re from South Korea and then buying a phone-verified game account (or befriending a South Korean girl or boy). If you go through that much trouble you will be able to play the game but remember, it won’t be available in English so there will be more obstacles on the way. The Game Review
A high-fantasy concept in the vein of Blizzard’s massively successful World of Warcraft series, Lost Ark Online from Smile Gate is one heckuva epic experience on PCs and offers one of gaming’s largest, most detailed worlds.
The biggest driver of Lost Ark Online’s combat is cooperative gameplay in a squad-based format. This means that most of the actions undertaken in the game’s world are done with the help of other players.
We know many Western gamers struggle with that concept, but it is an absolute necessity in Lost Ark Online. Further, there are instanced battles that require tons of people working together to achieve an objective so it is not easy to escape this ever-present need to work with your comrades.
And the instanced events are epic. We’re talking war machines, catapults, storming castle walls – you name it, it is here in Lost Ark Online.
One of Lost Ark Online’s biggest benefits is that it is as earnest as it is expansive. Player choice is similarly endless.
This is a serious world with graphics that attempt to convey a dark, dreary medieval world, one that is filled with death and danger. Gone are the Crayola colors of Blizzard’s offerings and in their place are dark palettes of foreboding hues.
Indeed, such is the art style of Lost Ark Online that it recalls Path of Exile, itself a clone of Blizzard’s Diablo 2. The graphics are both beautiful and detailed without being burdensome to your computer system. With six base classes and 18 sub-classes derived from them, the game further delves into Path of Exile territory with a layered approach to avatar customization that makes each player’s experience unique.
Like in World of Warcraft, there are professions to undertake, arena battles to fight in, and you can even own your own island in a mechanic similar to WoW’s garrisons.
Of course, no fantasy game would be complete without a storyline involving gods, demons, heroes, and more. Lost Ark Online has all of that and in spades. The world’s lore is detailed without becoming mind-numbingly complex and the basic objectives of each faction are laid bare quite quickly. It isn’t something that will compel you on its own, but it is certainly not a turn off in any respect.
