The Game Review
Fallout Shelter is a single-player game that mostly revolves around managing numerous characters within the environment. The game begins as players get to choose a specific vault to set up their basic structures. Once the vault is selected, they are then required to build and manage different internal rooms as an overseer.
The main job of the players is to rescue dwellers from the wasteland, give them a home, and keep them happy by fulfilling their needs. Each dweller that appears comes with a specific set of abilities. They are:
- agility,
- charisma,
- endurance,
- intelligence,
- luck,
- perception,
- and strength.
The dwellers are ranked from 1 to 10 in each of those abilities. Consequently, some dwellers are ranked evenly in all the skills whereas others who are known as special dwellers are stacked with a higher rank in a specific skill. Each character’s special skill affects the output generation of different abilities. An example includes how a dweller with higher perception will produce better output if they are made to work at the water treatment plant.
A dweller with a special charisma ranking can be placed in the living room where they are more likely to reproduce. The characters in the game can also level up eventually which will, in turn, automatically raise their overall stats. A dweller with a higher level is not only certain to generate more resources but will also be less likely to mess up a task if it is performed in super speed.
Generating an even amount of resources is one of the most important aspects of the game. This factor allows the players to build numerous rooms within the vault which can cater to the needs for outputting the required resources. The more resources produced, the more satisfied will the dwellers be. By performing numerous tasks, the player also earns in-game money in the form of bottle caps which they can then use to purchase and build more structures.
Fallout Shelter, in most of its entirety, is very similar to the Sims franchise. Both games are very similar in dynamics and gameplay. Although The Sims provides a more extensive gameplay experience, the basic foundation of both the games is more or less the same: controlling characters, generating output, and keeping up with their needs.
Overall, Fallout Shelter is a very intuitive game that allows its players to have complete control over most of the game mechanics. The players are responsible for maintaining their own mini colony. The game was received with very positive reviews from both the fans and critics. The fact that it is available to play on almost every platform makes it very popular.
