The Game Review
With the game being a MOBA, there is clearly no actual story to focus on in the game, so instead let’s have a look at the visual style. The visual style in the game is that of an epic-fantasy that gives you plenty of luscious visuals and interestingly designed and unique characters to pick and choose from. From mythical creatures to basic humanoids, there are plenty of characters to choose from, with each new one they release being different in every aspect; both in how they play and how they look.
Heroes of Newerth, once again, is a MOBA, so the overall gameplay style is very reminiscent of other popular MOBAs, all with many of the same decisions and gameplay mechanics. Before you start a match, you must pick and choose from multiple different characters, with each character having their own ways of helping out on the battlefield in different ways. The map is pretty typical of the genre – there are three different lanes, where minions will slowly make their way towards the others base of operations, whoever ends up destroying the enemy’s base will win the game.
Each player can be assigned a specific role, giving them certain objectives in the game and with every player or minion they kill, they will slowly start to level up, allowing them to improve a chosen ability and increase some base stats in a couple of small ways. Once more, with everything that you kill, you will acquire more money to spend on items that increase your stats and you can even purchase consumables to restore health or mana in a pinch. Depending on just how good your team or the opposing team is at working together, the game will regularly be a tug-of-war between the two teams until finally, one takes the win against the other.
In terms of comparisons, Heroes of Newerth is inspired by League of Legends, but more importantly, it is inspired by the original Dota mod for Warcraft 3. Heroes of Newerth has a similar map, similar visuals, and similar gameplay decisions, except this time it’s designed to be a bit more accessible than the original Dota.
