I was not sure what I was getting into when I started Iron Harvest. I had heard that the good folks behind the game wanted to make a game that would fit in with the mid-00s strategy games that are still popular to this day. That right there got me interested as far too many strategy/tactics games are overblown with “features” these days.

The Game Review
I was not sure what I was getting into when I started Iron Harvest. I had heard that the good folks behind the game wanted to make a game that would fit in with the mid-00s strategy games that are still popular to this day. That right there got me interested as far too many strategy/tactics games are overblown with “features” these days.
While the setting is great, the story is awesome and some of the characters are very memorable. It would be nothing if the gameplay was not right and thankfully, they got it very right indeed. Each of the factions has their own mechs, units, and heroes that they can make use of. If you have played a game of this style before, you will pick it up very quickly.
There are two main resources in the game and these are iron and oil. You get these by capturing various structures on the map and upgrading them. I like to try and go for the resource points on the map at the start of a battle and then start my attack. There is a nice balance between attacking and defending in the game.
Trying to find out what kind of mech the enemy is weak against and then building it is a ton of fun. I liked how each mission has its own thing going on, but the core gameplay is fast-paced and fun. Far too many modern strategy games are all about wanting you to be the smartest person alive to get far in them, this one is more focused on the player having fun and I really appreciate that.
There is a pretty full-on multiplayer component here too. You can play against other players or with them on many different maps. There are league tables, you can play in skirmishes or ranked matches, and the multiplayer in general, I am sure is going to be something many people get a lot out of, and at some point, I am looking to get involved myself.
I was pretty blown away by what Iron Harvest offered. It is 100 percent a throwback to the way games like this used to be. However, there are more than enough “new” features that make it modern and fun at the same time. The setting and the story though are what got me very invested and made me want to keep on playing.
