It is kind of crazy that it has taken nearly 20 years for a sequel to Panzer Corps to be a thing. Well, recently I was able to try out the game and see how it is shaping up. As I write this the game is scheduled for a March 2020 release and so far, it is looking like one of the most exciting strategy games of 2020.

The Game Review
The premise of the game is very interesting. They are aiming to bring the entirety of WWII (from the German POV) to one game so the campaign is going to be very lengthy. The version I played had a handful of missions and the assault on Poland was a major highlight and taking Paris really did give me chills as I played. I know that playing as the Germans might be a bit off for some, but as a history buff, I did find it interesting.
In the final version of the game, one of the things I am most excited to check out is the alternate history scenarios. The ones that were given to me are what if you could invade England or the Middle East! It is very interesting and I am interested to see how the write a compelling story for these missions.
The gameplay of Panzer Corps 2 is something that I really do like. I enjoy an RTS game where the decisions I make actually feel like they matter and that is the case here. The way they let you have so much control over your units is really cool and the game manages to be both easy to figure out and super deep at the same time.
At this stage, the game does not have all of its features, but even with what is here it is impressive. Having the ability to take a unit and then make that one unit two smaller ones is great and can lead to some very interesting tactical decisions. I also really liked how there is a bit of an RPG aspect to the game in terms of the abilities you can give your troops.
This is a really cool idea and being able to give them abilities can be what makes the war turn in your favor. The way that the game deals with naval and aerial warfare is very interesting in that you will need to take charge of an enemy airfield if you want to keep being able to use your bombers.
Ok so Panzer Corps 2 even at this stage is fun to play, but I was very surprised at how polished the game is. It is going to offer 4K support, but in general, this is a game that is very easy on the eyes and it will no doubt help you get more invested into the campaign. The sound design also is great with booming effects and appropriate music.
While I just got a small taste of what Panzer Corps 2 is going to offer when it is fully released. I must say this is one of the most interesting strategy games of 2020. I like how it has a ton of options for you, but not at the expense of being clunky or too convoluted. This is a game that you strategy and history fans need to keep a closer eye on.
