What is Warhammer 40K?
One of the most popular role-playing game series out there, the Warhammer franchise, in its various incarnations, is the perfect platform for almost any type of game.
The 40K variant of the franchise, also known as Warhammer 40,000, tends to be a futuristic, sci-fi-inspired take on the Tolkien-esque high fantasy seen in Warhammer.
Like Warhammer, Warhammer 40,000 is about big, bold heroes and overwhelming enemies with lavish art styles that emphasize an industrial aesthetic overlaid on a medieval knight’s armor.
The unique combination of the high fantasy and the sci-fi is pretty unique and makes Warhammer 40,000 one of the more beloved universes out there.
The Game Review
In Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus playing as a tech priest, gamers gain access to certain augments to their avatar as they advance in level. They can increasingly add more augments and abilities to their tech priest as they level up in the game. With combat that is reminiscent of the Shadowrun series, Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus puts you in a variety of maps with varying objectives to complete.
Choosing from melee or range weapons helps you customize your gameplay style as well as make your tech priest unique. You also need to keep in mind how your tech priest works together with a group of others. Customization is pretty limitless and Bulwark Studios promises that no two tech priests will be alike. Tech-priests can further distinguish themselves through “disciplines”, of which gamers have six to choose from in the game.
While a lot of the game centers on combat and building up your character, there is also a ton of narrative and world to explore. This probably doesn’t come as surprise since it is a Warhammer title, but those who are not familiar with the series may not realize just how detailed the lore can get. Rather than being a negative, this actually makes Warhammer 40,000: Mechanicus a compelling playthrough. The world is so rich and everything so detailed that you can’t help but get sucked into it and become a part of its world.
Of course, it helps that the graphics, sound, and music all combine to keep you locked into that experience. The strategy aspect is compelling on its own, but feeling like you’re actually a part of a greater struggle keeps you coming back for more.
