I have a bit of a weird relationship with the movie Bambi. While it is one of the original Disney Classics, I for some reason or another did not see it until after I had seen many other Disney movies. As a kid, Bambi never really clicked with me and even now I have to say…. I actually liked Bambi II a bit better! I know some of you are spitting out your coffee at the screen reading that.

The Movie Review
However, Bambi is not a bad movie at all, I completely recognize it as a Disney Classic and in many ways, you could say it is one of the reasons Disney was able to become so dominant in theatres. As the fifth Disney theatrically released movie, it continued the wave of popularity that had been built up.
What I am trying to say is that I respect what Bambi did for Disney and can understand why it is a firm favorite for many people, but for me, this would not even crack my top 50 if I am being 100 percent honest. Still, I wanted to share my thoughts on it with you guys and that is why we are here today.
As this movie is the better part of 100 years old at this point, most know the deal. Bambi is a young deer who is trying to live his life in the forest. Bambi is a likable character, very inquisitive, kind, and a good friend to Thumper, Flower, and Faline. It is a good main cast of characters and Bambi is at the center of it all.
Bambi is actually the son of The Great Prince of the Forest and he one day may hold that title. There is a lot of tragedy in the movie, Bambi’s mother dying and him dealing with that is one of the most traumatic Disney events ever for many people. It is certainly a shocking thing to happen and I bet it was even more so when the movie was first released.
We get a time jump as Bambi becomes a young stag and it is here he starts to have romantic feelings for Faline! I have to be honest as a kid, this love story did not click with me at all. I can see why some enjoyed it and I can recognize that it is well done, but it just was not for me.
Once “man” arrives in the form of the hunters and the forest catches fire, I think the movie does actually get quite exciting. The closing sections of Bambi are the best part of the movie think it is very well done. The fire here is animated very well and it is crazy to think how the animators were able to do this back then.
Look, as I have said multiple times, Bambi is an all-time Disney Classic and I respect that. However, I find this movie for the most part to be rather boring! I know that is sacrilegious to many Disney fans, but I just have found this a bit of a chore to sit through and I have tried many, many times to watch it.
