I love the Despicable Me and Minions movies, and while 2022’s Minions: The Rise of Gru may be my least favorite in the franchise, I felt that 2024’s Despicable Me 4 was an awesome return to form! Even then, I did not dislike The Rise of Gru, but I did feel that perhaps the Minions were starting to overstay their welcome when it came to their solo efforts. Well, Minions & Monsters, the third Minions movie and the seventh overall in the franchise, proves otherwise.

Minions & Monsters was released on July 1, 2026. You can expect to be able to stream the film from digital platforms such as Peacock or Amazon Prime Video a couple of months after its threatrical release.
The Movie Review
Fast-Paced and Filler-Free
Let me start by saying that if you have seen the trailer for Minions & Monsters, you pretty much know exactly what is going on with this movie. That is not really a bad thing, and at around 90 minutes, this movie has pretty much zero filler, which was the same with Despicable Me 4, actually. I feel that they have really managed to get this formula down and make entertaining movies that get in, entertain you, and then are done before they have a chance to overstay their welcome.
Hollywood Dreams and Silent Era Stardom
These are not the same Minions from the story with Gru. We start out in ancient times with a new group of Minions who are looking for a master, but they keep managing to end up wrecking everything! One of the Minions, Dick, wants to just keep looking for a new evil master to serve.
However, we have another Minion called James. James is very artistic, and he dreams of making movies, something his best friend, Henry, wants to encourage, along with a mute Minion called Ed. They end up in silent-era Hollywood, and the Minions become superstars, and everything looks great! However, when sound is added to movies, the Minions’ lack of proper speech ruins everything, and they are fired from the studio, but James still wants to make movies.
Summoning Goomi the Deceiver
Their movie career is apparently over. This leads to a split with Dick and the other Minions going to find a new master, and James, Henry, and Ed staying in Hollywood with James wanting to make a monster movie. Well, he is in luck; one of their old masters was a wizard, and Ed took his spellbook, and they use it to summon a monster to star in the movie.
The monster that they summon is called Gary Orkam Oliver Magma Ichabod “Goomi” the Deceiver. Goomi tells James and his friends that he knows where they can get some big monsters for their monster movie, but of course, with Deceiver being part of his name, he is trying to trick them, and he has other plans. I freaking love Goomi and the fact that Trey Parker is voicing him and he sounds like Eric Cartman on helium is hilarious.
Robot Romance and Parallel Subplots
That alone would be more than enough for the plot of the movie, but Dick and the other Minions do not just leave and that is it for them for the rest of the movie. Dick and co manage to find an evil spaceman robot called Dort, and they join him to help him take over the world. Although Dort is not what you seem and, in finding love, he changes his ways. This is a great subplot, and the way the two run alongside each other makes for an even more entertaining movie.
A Fun-Filled Family Monster Romp
This is a very typical Minions/Despicable Me movie, but unlike the previous Minions movie, I feel that Minions & Monsters has way more going on. You actually care about James and his friend, and you also get pulled into what the other Minions are doing as well. There is a lot of very fun slapstick humor as you would expect, and I would go as far as saying that Goomi may be my favorite of the side characters that the entire franchise has introduced. If you want a movie, full of family fun, you really cannot go wrong with this.
