Bolt is one of those Disney movies that does not get talked about much. Bolt was released at a time when Disney was trying to kind of reinvent themselves and get past some of the misses, they had in the early 00s. Even though it is a movie that most people and even Disney themselves do not talk about much about, it is a fun and well-made movie that is well worth watching.

The Movie Review
Bolt is the main character and he is voiced by John Travolta. Bolt is the star of an action TV show where he is a superhero dog with superpowers! The thing is, Bolt actually thinks he really is a superhero and what is happening on the show is real. It is kind of like in Toy Story when Buzz thinks that he is a real space ranger.
The co-star of Bolt’s TV show is a girl called Penny (Miley Cyrus) she loves Bolt and the two of them are very good friends. Bolt mistakenly thinks that Penny has been kidnapped so he busts out of his movie studio home and goes on a journey to try and save her. This of course wreaks havoc for the TV show and Penny is sad and wants to search for Bolt.
Bolt on the other hand is in some real trouble. Seeing Bolt find out that he does not have superpowers and having to come to terms with this is pretty heartbreaking. He meets a mischievous cat called Mittens who teaches Bolt to act more like a real dog and joins him on his quest.
My favorite of all the characters in this movie is Rhino. Rhino is a hamster and he is also Bolt’s biggest fan and tags along on the journey too. Rhino’s relationship with Bolt and Mittens is absolutely hilarious. Seeing them work together in trying to get to where they think Penny is truly is fantastic stuff.
What I think makes this movie really work is the fact that Bolt is such a good character. While Bolt plays a superhero on TV, he actually has many of the brave characteristics that a superhero has. Seeing him be brave and become more confident as the movie progresses is pretty cool.
You truly do want Bolt and Penny to find each other again and that is what I think keeps you invested in the movie. I will say that visually, Bolt is not one of the best-looking Disney movies. I am not saying it is bad or anything like that, but the animation here is not one of Disney’s best, that is all I am saying. Ratatouille which was made by Pixar the year prior looks miles better than this.
Overall, Bolt is a very solid movie from Disney. It has action, suspense, humor, drama, and a whole lot of heart too. It is a real shame that this is a movie that gets no love from Disney these days. There is nothing really for it in the parks or in terms of merchandise. Still, it is on Disney Plus and if you have never seen it, I highly recommend that you check it out.
