I was not sure what to expect with Bones and All as it was described to me as a romantic horror movie. I love horror movies and thought that it sounded pretty interesting. Bones and All is directed by Luca Guadagnino from a script by David Kajganich. The movie is actually based on a book of the same name which was released in 2015.

The Movie Review
Our two leading actors are Taylor Russell as Maren and Timothée Chalamet as Lee. These are two fantastic young actors and they deliver an outstanding performance here. Despite these two characters technically being monsters and villains, you do grow to like them and want them to be happy and that is all down to the wonderful way they portray these characters.
I so want to go into great detail about this movie as this is the kind of movie that is just as much fun to talk about with others as it is actually to watch. However, I am going to be careful and not give you any major spoilers. It starts with Maren and we learn that Maren is a bit strange and one night at a sleepover she gets an urge to bite one of her friends
Maren freaks out over this and runs home where we learn that the fact that she has been wanting to eat people is something that has been part of her life for years. Her father has decided that he can no longer cover for her actions and leaves her to look after herself. One of the things that he leaves her is her birth certificate and she decides to take a road trip to try and find her birth mother.
It is on this road trip that she meets a young man called Lee (as well as someone else before Lee) and we find out that Lee has this same “hunger” as she does. Lee and Maren strike up a nice friendship and he says that he will take her to find the answers to the questions about her past that she has.
I love the way that the movie peels back layer after layer of these characters and we feel like we are getting to know them as they are getting to know each other. It is something that is very well done and again as I said before, these are technically villains, but you still grow to really like them.
The movie is a love story, a love story about monsters and that is something I thought was very cool and quite unique. The movie also has a 1980s setting and while that is the done thing these days, I do think setting the movie in the 80s made sense and it was not just done to be cool!
Overall, Bones and All was a fantastic movie and probably the best “romantic” movie I have seen this year. I really liked the two main characters and I liked how we did not get a definitive answer in regard to what they are. It is a movie that has a lot of heart and it will more than likely leave you heartbroken when the credits start to roll!
