It is a horror movie, and it is made by A24, that was pretty much all I needed to hear about Bring Her Back to make me interested. This is an Australian horror movie, and with the last Australian horror movie I saw being Talk To Me, I was pretty pumped about watching this. So far, this is up there with the best horror movies of the year. It was super creepy, and I legit had no idea how it was going to end.

Bring Her Back Plot and Movie Review
The premise of the movie is that we have a 17 year old called Andy who, along with his younger sister Piper, are put into the foster care system after their dad dies. Andy really wants to look after Piper, but she is blind, so it does come with challenges. Seeing these kids have to deal with the trauma of their dad dying and then being put into a stranger’s house is pretty heartbreaking right at the start of the movie.
Their foster carer is a strange woman called Laura. Laura is already caring for another kid, a kid called Oliver, who is mute. Laura starts out super friendly, but she soon starts trying to manipulate things as Andy makes it clear that once he turns 18, he is going to become Piper’s legal guardian.
You do kind of feel for Laura at first as she is also grieving as she lost her young daughter, Cathy, who drowned. Now, the big supernatural/horror twist of the movie is that Laura has a way to bring Cathy back from the dead, and let me just tell you, as you probably would expect, this is not good news for Piper and Andy.
The Chilling Supernatural Twist in Bring Her Back
The thing with Bring Her Back is that I really cannot say any more about the plot. The parts with Laura and who Oliver really is shocked the hell out of me, and it is some of the creepiest stuff I have seen in a horror movie this year! The pacing of the movie is fantastic, and it has you on an emotional cliff at the start, and then it just twists and twists the tension all the way until the end.
Outstanding Acting and Horror Performance
A huge part of what made this for me was the acting. Our four leads in Billy Barratt as Andy, Sora Wong as Piper, Sally Hawkins as Laura, and Jonah Wren Phillips as Oliver, were all amazing in their roles. No spoilers here, but this is some super unhinged acting, and it makes you 100 percent believe in what you are seeing in front of you. The special screening that I went to of this had people wincing and freaking out which made it an even more fun experience.
Final Thoughts: A Modern Horror Classic
I loved this freaking movie! Shocking is a term that is thrown around by many horror movies when they are doing their PR, but that is the best way to describe Bring Her Back! If you love horror movies and the supernatural, you are in for a wild ride with this one! This is one that I hope A24 goes all out for when they release it on Blu-Ray or 4K, as I would love to know about the production process of this modern horror classic!
