Doctor Strange is a downloadable superhero action film produced by Marvel Studios. The film is the fourteenth edition in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is based on the character of Stephen Strange. The film was officially released on 13th October 2016 and was distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures.
It is directed by Scott Derrickson and features a talented cast consisting of Benedict Cumberbatch, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Rachel McAdams, Benedict Wong, Michael Stuhlbarg, and Benjamin Bratt.

The Film Review
The Plot
Doctor Strange starts off as Kaecilius, a treasonous sorcerer, enters a secret compound called Kamar-Taj where he manages to steal mystical text for malicious purposes. Meanwhile, Stephen Strange, an arrogant surgeon who loses his career after a car accident, soon ends up in Kamar-Taj himself in hopes of having his hand healed.
The Ancient One, head of the Kamar-Taj, who also trained Kaecilius in the past, reluctantly accepts Strange and trains him to become an expert in mystical sorcery. Soon, Kaecilius returns with his accomplices and manages to take down one of the three Sanctums that protect the Earth from the demons present in the dark dimensions.
Kaecilius also manages to contact Dormammu of the dark dimension where time does not exist. He then proceeds on to destroying the other two Sanctums as well despite Strange and The Ancient One’s efforts to stop him. This, in turn, leads to the dark dimension slowly beginning to take over the Earth.
The Ancient One dies in the process of protecting the Sanctums whereas Strange acts quickly to reverse time and stop the third Sanctum in Hong Kong from being destroyed. He then uses the mystical Eye of Aggamotto to trap Dormammu in a time loop within the boundaries of the dark dimension. This results in Dormammu eventually giving up to Strange despite having to kill him over a thousand times only to start over again.
Dormammu, as per the orders of Strange, leaves Earth and takes Kaecilius with him, thus ending the threat once and for all.
The Movie Production
Doctor Strange is considered to be a masterpiece when it comes to the magic produced thanks to some brilliantly improvised visual effects strategies. Leading the team were two visual effects supervisors namely Stephane Ceretti and Richard Bluff.
The two supervisors worked with Industrial Light & Magic (ILM) to produce the effects behind the scenes. According to Ceretti himself, a lot of effort and precision was required for film particularly because it had a lot to do with time and its characteristics.
He further went on to describe how the whole shooting process turned out to become quite a challenge as most of it had to be dynamically animated. The sequence in Hong Kong where Doctor Strange reverses time took about 23 nights to shoot.
Other companies who worked on the film included Method Studios, Framestore, Lola VFX, Luma Pictures, Rise FX, Crafty Apes, and SPOV. The film on a whole required over 1400 shots to be produced.
Doctor Strange Movie Score
To produce the main score for the film, the veteran Michael Giacchino was hired. The score album was released digitally on 21st October 2016 by Hollywood Records.
The Bottom Line
Overall, Doctor Strange added to the list of achievements of the Marvel Cinematic Universe which, at this point, had become an absolute show stopper. The film managed to gross over $677 million at the box office as it paved the way for the creation of the next Avengers film.
