Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is fun. Fun is literally the best way that you can describe what kind of movie Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is. It has some great nods to the tabletop RPG, but you do not need any prior D&D knowledge to have a blast watching this movie.

The Movie Review
I know it is completely unfair, but Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves had a tough time before it came out as many people remember that garbage D&D movie from two decades ago! This has nothing to do with that at all, it is its own thing and I had such a fun time with this, I hope it does well enough to spawn a sequel and possibly become a franchise.
The casting in this movie is great. Chris Pine (Star Trek, A Wrinkle in Time, Don’t Worry Darling) leads the movie as Edgin who is a bard, Chris Pine is just so charming and that perfect type of “funny” that works great for an action/fantasy comedy like this. The whole cast is great actually and the comradery and banter between them were a major highlight of the movie.
The cast is made up of your D&D classes. You have Holga the barbarian, Simon the mage, Doric a druid, and Xenk a paladin. Michelle Rodriguez (Lost, Fast & Furious, Avatar) as the barbarian is a ton of fun, and the back-and-forth between those two was something I enjoyed a great deal.
What we have here is a fantasy movie that is not trying to take itself too seriously, instead, it is just focused on taking the audience on a wild ride. The trailers let you know that this team of thieves are trying to stop an evil from rising up, something they helped do by accident. The Red Wizards of Thay are bad news and they and their necromancing powers are big trouble!
However, while this is a fun action fantasy movie with some great laughs, dangerous quests, and epic fights with all kinds of monsters. Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves also has a softer side and ultimately, it is about Edgin trying to do what is right for his daughter and making sure that she is safe. It may be a tad on the predictable side, but that did not hurt the fun of the movie at all.
As you may have seen in the trailers, the special effects in this movie are amazing! We are talking awesome and over-the-top CG monsters and big green scene fantasy locations that look real. The special effects team truly did a wonderful job with this movie and I am very happy I made the effort to go and see this on the big screen.
Forget about this being a Dungeons & Dragons movie! Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves is a tremendous and fun fantasy comedy movie that I do not see anyone having a bad time watching. I had so much fun with it that I very well may go and see this again in the theatre before it finishes its theatrical run!
