I do not think that Chris Hemsworth has ever looked more badass than he does in Extraction. This 2020 Netflix Original movie is a fantastic action movie that makes me think Hemsworth would have fit in with the likes of Schwarzenegger, Stallone, and Van Damme back in the 80s. I had such a blast with this when I first watched it and I just watched it again over the weekend and thought it was even better the second time around.

The Movie Review
While I loved this movie, I do have to say that if action movies are not usually your thing, 1 this will not do anything to change that, and 2, why would you watch it anyway? The movie is set in India and Ovi, the son of an incarcerated crime boss is kidnapped at a party he is at with his friends.
A ransom is set and his father does not have the money to pay it. Instead, his father calls in the head of his security, Suja Rav, and tasks him with getting his son back or he will kill his son! Left with no choice, Suja decides to hire Australian mercenary, Tyler Rake (Chris Hemsworth) to lead the extraction of Ovi.
I was actually surprised at how quickly the “extraction” of Ovi took place. We get to see what a capable leader and soldier Tyler is during this, but things were perhaps a little too easy. When word gets out that Ovi has escaped, the city is locked down, a bounty is put on Tyler’s head and he realizes that he cannot even trust the people who hired him.
Now, while Tyler is a total badass and in this for the money at first. The movie does a great job of humanizing Tyler and making him seem like a real person. Because of this, Tyler refuses to just ditch Ovi and proceeds to protect him and try to get him to the extraction helicopter.
This is a movie that moves at 100 miles per hour and never stops. It is like everything that could be against Tyler actually is, but you completely believe that he has what it takes to get out of it. One other thing that this movie does well is to make you care about Ovi. You want to see this kid survive and the bond that he and Tyler start to build was not something I expected to be as into as I was.
As this is an action movie, big fights, big gun fights, and crazy action scenes are aplenty! However, despite all of the really cool action scenes that Extraction has, it also has a lot of tension. You never know who can be trusted or what is a trap and so on, so it does keep you on the edge of your seat in that regard too.
Before I watched this for the second time recently, I knew that I liked it. However, on my second viewing, I think I may go as far as saying that this is the best Netflix Original action movie they have done! I legit have no complaints about this movie and it is the perfect movie to watch if you are in the mood for a kickass action flick! I cannot wait for the sequel which is hitting Netflix in June 2023.
