Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was easily one of my top five anticipated movies of the year. I think that James Gunn and Marvel closed this trilogy off perfectly with this movie. Still, with that being said, I do think that the Guardians could still be in the MCU in some capacity going forward, which I would not mind one bit.

The Movie Review
This is a spoiler-free review here today so do not worry about having anything ruined for you. The movie takes place after the events of Avengers: Endgame and Thor: Love & Thunder. Peter Quill is still trying to come to grips with the fact that his Gamora is gone and this one here now is really a completely different person.
I thought the way that Peter tried to force his version of Gamora onto her was very interesting. It made for some funny moments, but also some sad ones too, speaking of “sad” I do feel this is the most emotional of all the Guardians of the Galaxy movies. It will still make you laugh plenty, but there is certainly a bit of a darker tone mixed in here too.
A huge reason for that is the backstory that we get of Rocket. The amount of layers that they add to the character Rocket Racoon here is incredible and it really does pull on the heartstrings. Plus, I think Disney has a goldmine on their hands with all the baby Rocket merch that is sure to flood the stores this year!
We find out that Rocket was created by a man/entity called, The High Evolutionary that is obsessed with experimenting and creating perfection. He is a truly dastardly guy and you hate him right from the start, Chukwudi Iwuji brings this psycho to life very well. He has charisma, but the guy is just completely nuts and is willing to do whatever he wants in order to get what he wants.
He is 100 percent the main villain of the story, but Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 adds in a new character, Will Poulter as Adam Warlock! I have been waiting for years for Adam Warlock to be part of the MCU and I hate to say it, but this was not what I expected from the character at all.
Adam Warlock is a far smaller part of this movie than I thought he would be. Also, his character is so weird, he is like a child in this incredible being’s body and he is more of a lackey than anything else. This is not the big cosmic being that I thought we were going to get when I heard that Adam Warlock was coming to the MCU. I did not hate it, but I certainly did not love it either.
The other Guardians all get their moments to shine too. Drax and Mantis are as hilarious as ever and Groot (who I think is now a young adult) is pretty badass. However, it is Nebula that I liked the most out of the core group. She has a new powerful arm that is so much fun and it is great to see a more humorous and “human” side to her character, she was a ton of fun to watch.
As far as everything else goes, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 is exactly what you would expect from a Guardians movie. It has an awesome soundtrack that is used perfectly throughout the movie. The action scenes are epic, there is one scene in a corridor that is in the running for my favorite Marvel action scene of all time!
Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 was a great way to bring this version of the Guardians to a close. It was a movie that was just as much fun as the other two, but I felt like it had a bit more heart and sadness to it. If you liked the other two movies and the Christmas special, you will like this!
