I was shocked to hear that Spider-Man: No Way Home was five years old! It is probably because I have watched that movie about 10 times since I first saw it in theatres, but it did not seem like it had been that long since our favorite Web Head had been on the big screen. Like many people, I had wanted a smaller, Spidey on the streets, friendly neighborhood Spider-Man kind of movie for a while. But after he had been to space, messed with other dimensions, and met two alternate versions of himself, I wondered if Marvel and Sony would be able to scale it back.

The Movie Review
Peter Parker’s Isolation vs. Spider-Man’s Popularity
Well, that is pretty much the kind of movie we get here. Peter is having a very hard time dealing with not being in the lives of MJ and Ned, and he is kind of torturing himself, as he is always checking out their socials. While he is a complete nobody as Peter, Spider-Man’s social standing has never been better. The people of New York love Spidey and really do appreciate all that he does to protect them.
Glitched Powers & Seeking Banner’s Help
The thing is, Peter’s personal life is starting to cause problems in his “professional” life as his powers are starting to go a little haywire. From organic webbing to enhanced abilities, it is like the spider side of him is trying to take over. He reaches out to Dr Banner to try and get some help, but this leads Peter on a very dangerous path as he starts messing with tech that he really should not be.
A Body-Jumping Threat & Teaming Up with The Punisher
Plus, there is a new threat that has shown up in New York! Look, I am sure by the time you read this, you know who it is, but I am not going to say their name just in case I spoil it. This new threat can jump from person to person, and they are not quite what they seem. Thankfully, Spidey has formed a kind of friendship with The Punisher, and this was my absolute favorite part of the movie.
Jon Bernthal’s MCU Punisher Integration
I must admit, as much as I love Jon Bernthal as The Punisher. I wondered how the f-bomb dropping, blood splattering Punisher would work in the MCU, but they pull it off so well. This is 100 percent the Bernthal Punisher that you know and love, and the rapport that he has with Spider-Man is awesome. You can tell that they have known each other for a while, and it does seem like Frank does actually care about “the kid”, as he likes to call him.
Multi-Layered Plot & Michael Mando’s Scorpion
There are many threads… or should I say webs, happening in Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and they all manage to work very well together, and the movie has a great flow to it. My only complaint is that we had waited all these years for a payoff with Michael Mando as Scorpion, and it is awesome to see him in the suit, but I wish we got a little more. Hey, I will take what we get, and at least he actually got some real screen time, unlike Tombstone.
Character Depth, Action & Optimistic Ending
Everything here clicked for me. Peter dealing with losing his girlfriend and best friend, dealing with his powers, the trouble this new “villain” is causing, and him trying to find his place as Peter in the world are all fleshed out and feel important. Not only that, the action here is a lot of fun, and it closes in a way that gives you a ton of hope for Peter, but also makes you excited to see what kind of adventure Spider-Man is going to be going on next.
Final Thoughts & Box Office Success
This was just a ton of fun, and I am sure I will probably see it at least once more in the theatre. You may also be impressed that I resisted the temptation and I did not get any of the popcorn buckets for this movie! Spider-Man: Brand New Day has really clicked with people, and it is great to see it doing so well at the box office. With so many big movies failing, it is great to see that people still do love a blockbuster when it is something they actually want to see!
