If you have heard anything about 2019’s Hustlers, it is no doubt that Jennifer Lopez is fantastic! That praise for J-Lo’s performance is well deserved as the more mature stripper of the group she is wiser, motherly, and steals every scene she is in. While most of the talk is about her performance, Hustlers is actually a damn fine crime movie in its own right.

The Movie Review
I was surprised to hear that Hustlers was actually based on a true story. Of course, the term “based” means that unless you are fully familiar with this, you are not sure of what is real and what is just written for the movie. Still, it is a very interesting story about a group of strippers who are struggling to get by.
The movie has a great ensemble cast with the likes of Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Julia Styles, Cardi B, and many more. While it is Jennifer Lopez that gets all the attention, the main character I would say is Destiny who is a stripper and played by the very talented Constance Hu.
These strippers are a fun-loving bunch on the surface, but times are very hard. They each have their own struggles and the first part of the movie is all about showcasing this. It is a setup for why they are about to engage in the things that they are about to be doing. It works very well.
I have heard some people say that they feel the first half dragged on too much, but I would have to disagree. It gives you a reason to care about these women and get why they are thinking of hustling! The second part of the movie is just awesome and a pretty wild ride.
So, what is the hustle they are planning to do exactly? They decide that they are going to make money by stealing money from the big-timers like CEOs and high-dollar stock traders. It is very interesting and I found the whole setup phase of their plan to be a lot of fun. Seeing the ladies try and figure out what they are going to do and how they are going to do it is awesome stuff.
While you could say that Hustlers is just a heist movie about strippers and I bet a lot of people went to see this thinking that. Hustlers is actually a very smart and clever movie that has humor, sadness, and also a lot of heart as well. I was very surprised by just how good this was and how much was going on at all times.
If you like crime movies and movies that have a strong ensemble cast, Hustlers is going to be something that you are very entertained by. It would be so easy to just say “it’s the movie where J-Lo is a stripper” but it is so much more than that. It is an entertaining thrill ride that I have yet to hear anyone who has seen it say a bad word about!
