One of the movies that I am most excited about in 2025 is I Know What You Did Last Summer 2025… ok, that is not the title, but as of writing, we do not know what the title is. Released in 1997, a year after Scream blew everyone away, I Know What You Did Last Summer was a pretty big hit and I loved this as a teenager and I still find it a fun teen slasher to this day.

I Know What You Did Last Summer (1997) Review
I watched all three of the movies (I deserve an award for watching the third one) recently and I am pleased to say that the first two I Know What You Did Last Summer movies really do hold up. With an all star cast of talented actors who are still going to this day, this is a fun, cool, and slick thriller that has a few fun twists and turns.
The Plot – A Classic 90s Slasher
The story is a lot of fun and has our four main characters, Ray, Julie, Helen, and Barry hit a guy with their car after a party. They freak out and decide that coming clean would destroy their lives as the car reeks of alcohol and no one would believe it was an accident. The teens decide that the best thing to do is dump the body in the ocean and take this secret to their graves. I have to say, Ryan Phillipe is awesome during this scene, he is so unhinged and crazy!
Fast forward a year later and things are not good. Julie is really struggling at college, Barry is pretty much an alcoholic, Ray is working as a fisherman and Helen’s dreams of stardom have not come true. I probably should have mentioned that Ray was dating Julie and Helen and Barry were together, but after their little hit and run incident, they went their separate ways.
A Mystery That Turns Deadly
If their lives not being what they dreamed was not bad enough, all of the teens get a letter that says “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and that of course brings them together and has them freaking out. They have a suspect in one of their fellow high school students who saw them, but things start to get pretty deadly, pretty quickly.
They soon start being stalked by someone who clearly wants them dead. We get a good mixture of the teens being hunted and being in dangerous situations along with them trying to do some detective work to figure out who this person is. There are some really fun twists and turns and some pretty tense moments in the movie. Helen’s death is pretty brutal as she comes so close to making it away from the killer.
A 90s Slasher Classic
I already mentioned Ryan Phillipe. But Freddy Prince Jr, Sarah Michelle Geller, and Jennifer Love Hewitt all play their roles to perfection. Even though Ray is an asshole, you kind of want all of them to survive, but at the same time, they did hit a guy and leave him for dead so it is not as if they are completely innocent victims in all of this!
I Know What You Did Last Summer is a 90s classic and a movie that I still really like. It may be a very cheesy 90s movie, but that is what I kind of dig about it, when I watch it today. One thing that may sound crazy is that while I do love this movie, I have always preferred, I Still Know What You Did Last Summer just a little bit more. While this is a 90s slasher, I think a teenager could watch this today and have just as much fun as I did when I first saw it and still do to this day.
