The Film Review
In the original film in 1995, Jumanji was a board game played by kids where the elements of the board game were brought into the real world. But nowadays board games are not played that much anymore so in this film, the story was turned into Jumanji being a video game.
The movie starts with, in 1996 a teenager named Alex receiving a board game called Jumanji. He isn’t interested in playing the board game so he sets it aside. But later that night, the board game turned into a video game cartridge. The video game got Alex interested, so he tried to play the game but got transported into the game instead. Twenty years later in 2016, four high school teenagers who would normally never get along with each other get detention. They find an old video game console while being in detention and decide to play it as they want to pass their time. So they connect the game with a TV and choose a character they want to play as. But as they hit play, they get sucked into the world of Jumanji and are then portrayed by their avatars. Their game avatars are actually, more or less, counterparts of themselves. After they get inside the game, they find out that they must finish the game and all of them will get three lives in the world of Jumanji and if they lose all three, they will really die.
The movie is entertaining as the actors in Jumanji joke about their roles and ridicule their images. The movie also makes fun of the way video games are made as many things in a video game can be absurd. The makers use the video game angle to the viewer’s advantage making the movie thrilling to watch as the humor is based around the games phenomeon. The action sequences in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle are also very exciting to watch.
Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle received positive reviews from the critics. The movie was mainly made for kids but adults also liked the movie. Anyone who played video games will have a blast watching it. Jumanji: Welcome to the jungle made $960 million worldwide, the fifth-highest-grossing film of 2017. The sequel of the movie is scheduled to release on 2019.
The movie has a few hit songs and the most popular one is Welcome to the Jungle by Guns N’ Roses.
