I love the Jurassic World and Jurassic Park series, and I would go as far as to say that so far, all six movies have been a ton of fun. Over the last few months, I have been re-watching all of the Jurassic Park/World movies, and they still hold up! Although I will say that Jurassic World: Dominion is by far my least favorite, but I still enjoyed it. With that being said, I was very excited for Jurassic World: Rebirth, which was very much doing its own thing.
Where to Watch Jurassic World: Rebirth
Jurassic World: Rebirth was released on July 2, 2025. A couple of months from this date you will be able to stream the film from a digital platform. Because it is a Universal release, you should first try looking for it on Peacock.
The Movie Review
Well, I say it is doing its own thing; this is very much set in the world that Jurassic Park and Jurassic World started, but this is not a direct sequel to Jurassic World: Dominion. I thought that the trailers looked like a lot of fun, and I was excited to see a badass Scarlett Johansson go up against some dinosaurs!
A Fresh Take Within a Familiar Universe
The trailers for Jurassic World: Rebirth were actually very, very good. I hate how trailers spoil so much stuff these days, and while the trailer did tell you the gist of what was happening here, there was an extra element to the story that I had no idea about. The main aspect of the story is that this big corporation wants to go and get the blood/DNA of the three largest dinosaurs and then use that to make a ton of money in the medical sector.
Meet the New Heroes
We have a rather less than good guy who hires two people to lead this expedition to get the DNA. We have Scarlett Johansson’s Zora, who is a badass gun for hire, and we also have paleontologist, Dr. Henry Loomis, played by Jonathan Baily. These two have fantastic chemistry throughout the movie, and they are both very likable characters that you want to see survive this nightmare that they have found themselves in.
A New Island and Frightening Dinosaurs
A neat twist here is that the movie does not take place on one of the two islands that we know of. Instead, Jurassic World: Rebirth takes place on a 3rd island where InGen was doing less than ethical experiments to make new and stranger looking dinosaur species. I love the idea of them messing with DNA and coming up with these, for lack of a better term, monsters.
Action, Survival, and the D-Rex
On the way to the island, the team that Zora has put together ends up in some trouble as they come across a family stranded in the ocean who have been attacked by a Mosasaur! On the island, we have Zora trying to find the dinosaurs they need to get the DNA, but also leading the team to safety. We also have this family who are trying to fight for survival as well. It is a great mixture of characters. You have the ones that you want to survive and then you also have the one who from very early on in the movie, you are hopeful will end up dinosaur poop!
Jurassic World Rebirth Special Effects and Monsters
I was very impressed with the special effects. For over 30 years now, Jurassic Park and Jurassic World have been wowing us with their dinosaurs, and that is certainly no different here. The new monster dinosaur here is called the D-Rex, and it is pretty horrifying stuff; it kind of reminds me of the alien from the end of Alien Resurrection. The Indominus Rex and the Indoraptor looked cool and were a lot of fun. However, the D-Rex is the stuff nightmares are made from, and I love how it looks more like a monster than a dinosaur.
Jurassic World Rebirth Balances Familiarity and Innovation
Some people have complained that Jurassic World: Rebirth offers nothing new and is just another “Jurassic Park/World” movie, and to be fair, I can see that argument. However, they tried something radically new and different with Jurassic World: Dominion, and many of those same people did not like that! For me, this hit just right, it was a lot of fun and gave me exactly what I wanted, a bunch of people, most of whom were very likable, trying to survive against a bunch of dinosaurs! I highly recommend that you make the effort to go and see this in the theatre.
Final Thoughts and Series Ranking
Also, not that anybody asked, but as I have watched all seven of these movies over the last few months. In order from favorite to least favorite, here is my ranking of these movies: Jurassic Park, Jurassic World, The Lost World: Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: Rebirth, Jurassic Park III, Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom, Jurassic World: Dominion. The thing with this series is that even though I have a movie in last place, I still enjoyed it.
