Controversy and Production Challenges
The story behind this movie is just as interesting as the actual movie! There were many countries that wanted nothing to do with Life of Brian and said it was blasphemous and could cause trouble. There were many protests and people saying they would boycott the movie. However, the Monty Python team used this as an advantage and would use it in their marketing to make people feel like this was a movie that they could not miss. Also, the studio pulled out just before shooting and this led to George Harrison (yes The George Harrison) funding the movie with his production company.
A Unique Twist on Religious Comedy
The basics of the story of Monty Python’s Life of Brian is that a child called Brian is born, in the stable next to where Jesus was born on the very same day and this leads to him being mistaken as the Messiah. We follow Brian and his disdain for the Romans and it eventually leads to him becoming a martyr as people start following him and really believing that he is the Messiah.
Unforgettable Comedy and Absurd Moments
The thing with this movie is that it is hard to put it all into words as you have to just watch it and roll with it. The comedic timing of this group is honestly second to none and there are so many laugh-out-loud moments here, the scene with Biggus Dickus and Incontinenta Buttocks still cracks me up, as does the following alien abduction scene for just how absurd and crazy it is.
The Iconic Ending of Life of Brian
The ending scene with the iconic, “Always Look on the Bright Side of Life” song is one of the best endings to any comedy. If I hear that song, my mind comes straight back to all the “Brians” on their crucifix trying to convince people that they are “Brian”. This is just an awesome movie, but while most people prefer this, I have always liked Monty Python and The Holy Grail just a little better, probably due to the scene with The Black Knight! Still, even with that being said, this is just a super entertaining movie that I enjoy even more now than when I first saw it as a kid.
Will We Ever See Monty Python’s Life of Brian in 4K?
Now, Monty Python’s Life of Brian is awesome, we have established that, but there is still no 4K release of this! The Blu-Ray is ok, but it is pretty barebones. A couple of years back, we did get Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life on 4K, but that was made by a different studio so I am not sure if there is something weird with the rights of the Life of Brian that has so far prevented it from being remastered in 4K. I will be a day one buyer if they do ever release this on 4K that is for sure.
