As Ne Zha 2 started to break more and more records, I could not help but become intrigued by this animated sequel to a movie that I had never heard of. As of writing, this movie has made over 2 billion dollars at the box office and it still has not been released in all regions! Talk about a monster of a hit, I cannot see how anything else in 2025, not even Superman or the Fantastic Four can come anywhere close to this kind of box office success.

The Movie Review
I watched the first Ne Zha not too long before I was able to go and see the sequel and I really enjoyed it. However, Ne Zha 2 is better in pretty much every way. It is bigger in scale, looks even better and the story I feel is much grander and better this time too and that is saying something as I thought the first movie had a great story.
The Plot of Ne Zha 2
This is a direct sequel and takes place just after the first movie. After losing their physical bodies, Ne Zha and Ao Bing are given new bodies, but they are quite fragile so they have to take it easy. This is easier said than done as Ao Bing’s father, the Dragon King of the East Sea, Ao Guang thinks that Ao Bing is dead and is looking for revenge so attacks the town.
Ao Bing uses all the strength that he has to fight off this invasion and in the process, completely destroys his weak physical body. Ao Guang calls off the attack and arranges for Ao Bing and Ne Zha to share the same body so that they can enter a series of trials by Wuliang.
This means that Ne Zha and Ao Bing will have to work together to complete Wuliang’s trials and if they do, they will get the opportunity to get Ao Bing’s body back. That right there is more than enough for a whole movie to be based on. Seeing Ne Zha and Ao Bing have to take part in these trials where they fight all kinds of monsters and demons was awesome and very exciting.
Action, Betrayal, and Stunning Visuals
However, Ne Zha 2 has way more than that going on! I do not want to go into spoilers here as the movie is still not out everywhere, but the stuff with the four Dragon Kings of the Sea was awesome. I really liked Ao Guang in this movie and think that the Dragon Kings were so well done. As you would expect, there is a pretty big betrayal here and all is certainly not what it seems.
The first movie looked great, but the leap here in Ne Zha 2 is just staggering. There is much more action this time around and the special effects, especially when there is water of fire swirling around look phenomenal. I cannot think of the last time an animated movie wowed me like this with the way that it looked!
A Must-Watch Animated Film
This is a much longer movie than the first Ne Zha coming in at over two hours, but it does not drag at all. Much like the first movie, there is always something happening in Ne Zha 2 and those two plus hours truly do go by so fast. I was entertained from start to end with this and I will 100 percent be picking this up on 4K when it is released.
