Man, Jack Quaid is having one hell of an early 2025. Already this year, Jack Quaid starred in the awesome movie Companion, and now he is back in Novocaine, a badass and fun action movie. It was like the people behind the movie wanted to put Jack Quaid in an action movie and this was what they come up with.

The Movie Review
The premise of Novocaine is that our main character, played by Jack Quaid, is called Nathan Caine and we find out that he was given the nickname Novocaine because he has a condition that prevents him from feeling pain. Nathan is pretty much the same role Jack Quaid has been playing for the last few years. He’s a mild-mannered, shy and awkward kind of guy, but he just so happens to also be a total badass here due to never knowing the fear of pain.
A Unique Hero: Jack Quaid as Nathan Caine
Nathan works at a bank, and he starts up a relationship with a colleague called Sherry. On Christmas Eve, the bank is robbed, and Sherry is taken hostage, leading to Nathan stealing a cop car and giving chase. Due to not being able to feel pain, Nathan is able to take the fight to the bad guys in some pretty brutal ways. The scene with him putting his hand in the fryer legit had me wincing, and the way that he disposes of the final bad guy is just insane!
Comedy, Action, and Brutality in Novocaine
Nathan is just such an awesome main character and he is so easy to root for. I found Nathan to be a very likable character, and seeing him take all of this punishment but it not actually bother him, well, not bother him as far as pain goes was a ton of fun. I do think that the movie takes it to parody levels when he is in the bad guys house and it is like the house from Home Alone with all the booby traps. However, this scene was fun as hell and it very much worked.
A Twisty and Wild Ride
For this being a balls to the wall action movie, it did have a pretty cool twist that I did not see coming. Although, I will say that I think it lasted perhaps just a tad too long; I think they could have cut the final ending, and the movie would have been better for it. Not saying that the ending is bad or anything like that, but it just felt like they brought it to a close just before and then we get one final scene that felt kind of tacked on, if I am being honest.
Supporting Cast Adds to the Fun
While Jack Quaid is the guy who is getting all the attention for this and rightfully so. I thought it was awesome how Jacob Batalon had a role as Nathan’s gamer buddy in the movie. How can you not love this guy? While he will always be Ned from the Tom Holland Spider-Man movies to me, I always get a kick out of seeing this guy show up in other things.
Final Thoughts: Should You Watch Novocaine?
If you love action movies, there is no way that you will not have a fun time with Novocaine. This is a blast, and some of the stuff that Nathan has happen to him was just so wild I felt like I was feeling the pain for him. The movie gets going right from the start, and while it did last a tad longer than it needed to, I have no trouble suggesting that you make the effort to go and see this on the big screen. trust me, you will have an awesome time.
