When the worst thing I can say about One Piece is that I am worried Netflix will cancel it before it gets a second season, you know it must be good. My son and I are huge One Piece fans and we were both very excited about this and had been following the production of it for some time. The behind-the-scenes images we saw looked great, the cast was saying the right things and the trailer looked epic.

The Movie Review
I am very happy to say that Once Piece did not disappoint. I understand that the One Piece anime and its like 1000 parts is way too much for someone to start with. The One Piece live-action TV show is perfect for those who have never seen the anime! Yet, it is also perfect for those who are long-time fans.

The Story and Characters
The story is about a young pirate captain called, Monkey D Luffy who along with his crew, Nami, Zoro, Usopp, and Sanki make up the crew, The Straw Hat Pirates. This is such a great group and each character has their own personality, motivations, and goal and the show does a great job of explaining them all very well.
The Portrayal of Luffy
Luffy who is played by Inaki Godoy is such a great character. Luffy is an awesome captain, but more than that he is a loyal friend who will often put his crew’s needs before his own. Godoy plays Luffy perfectly and I honestly could not have been any happier with the way that he is portrayed here. Luffy wants to find the fabled treasure “The One Piece” which if he does will make him the King of the Pirates.
The Backstories
This is a sea-traveling world and there are various other groups of characters and pirates that the gang will come across. As well as introducing us to our protagonists very well, One Piece does these amazing little skits that give us the backstory of other characters that we meet along the way.
I truly cannot think of another live-action anime adaptation that does such a good job of explaining who everyone is, what they want, and what their deal is! I honestly think that other anime adaptations need to take note of the way that this introduces the characters as it is pretty much perfect.
Series Length and Enjoyment
One Piece has eight episodes and they all run around the one-hour mark. It is the kind of show that just zooms by and my son and I watched it in just three sittings, that was how into we were. Now, with, that being said this is very much a setup season as we do not get to go on the big epic adventure just yet, and to be honest, I am fine with that…. In theory! The reason I say that is because this is Netflix and they are not shy about cancelling shows.
Visual Excellence
This is a show that clearly cost a ton of money to make, It looks amazing and as cliché as this sounds, it is literally like the anime has come to life. It has these epic practical sets and awesome fight choreography that is showcased amazingly well thanks to the camera work. Even the CG in this show is very well done, some of the best I have seen in a TV show in quite some time.
Conclusion
As I write this, One Piece is the best TV show that I have seen in 2023! My expectations were sky high and it did not disappoint. It just sucks that we will have to wait at least a year for a second season, or even worse, Netflix could pull the plug on it! To say that this is a high recommendation is the understatement of the year. I legit have no complaints about this show at all!
