Paul Blart: Mall Cop is the definition of a guilty pleasure movie! Is this an all-time classic movie? Absolutely not, but Paul Blart: Mall Cop has that Kevin James charm which if you like will ensure you have a fun time with this. The funny thing about this movie is that there are some people who have a real hatred for this movie (like a friend of mine), like actually despise it which always surprises me as I have seen way worse.

The Movie Review
Audience Perspective: Who Should Watch Paul Blart: Mall Cop?
Before we go any further, I have to ask you a couple of questions. Do you like Kevin James and his schtick? Do you enjoy most of the Happy Madison-produced movies? If you said yes to those then chances are, you will have fun with Paul Blart: Mall Cop. This is a cheesy family comedy that is not meant to be taken seriously.
Character Study: Paul Blart’s Persona
Kevin James (check him out in Hitch, 50 First Days, or in Grown Ups) plays the titular Paul Blart. Paul lives in New Jersey and has always dreamed of being a cop. Due to “medical issues” Paul is never able to pass the exam and instead works as a mall security guard. I always think that Kevin James is likable in most comedy movies he is in, but for those who do not like him, he is pretty much the same as he always is here.
Family Dynamics and Comedy
Paul lives with his daughter and his mother. Paul is a great dad and the whole family dynamic in this movie is really sweet. Paul takes his job as a mall security guard very seriously. The way he zips around the mall on his segway looking to deter troublemakers is fun stuff. Seeing him flirt and like kiosk worker Amy made me smile too as he was just so awkward around her.
The Plot Thickens: A Twist in Paul Blart: Mall Cop
One day, Paul as a new guy that he needs to train a guy called Veck Simms. Simms has very little interest in being a mall cop as he is the leader of a gang that is going to rob the place during Black Friday! You can see where this is going a mile away, but it is still fun stuff.
Heroics in the Mall: The Climax
Paul is about to leave this situation to the SWAT team which is led by a guy called James Kent who bullied Paul back in the day. Paul finds out that the crooks have Amy as a hostage and he decides to take things into his own hands. It is basically a chubby mall cop trying to be a hero and if that sounds dumb to you, then dumb you will find this movie.
Final Thoughts: The Enjoyable Simplicity of Paul Blart: Mall Cop
I found Paul to be a very likable character and while he is a bit of a doofus, as Paul took his mall cop job and his training to be a cop so seriously, he actually has good ideas of how to be a hero in this situation. No one is ever going to say that this is an amazing movie, but it is a fun time, especially if you are looking for something lighthearted and fun to watch with your family. Hey, I have this on Blu-Ray and I am not ashamed to admit it!
