You know, Poker Face might be one of my favorite TV shows of 2023! It is certainly the best Peacock original that I have seen so far. While this is a show made for Peacock in the USA, different services/platforms depending on where you live may be showing it. For example, here in the UK where I live, Sky has the broadcasting rights for it.

The Movie Review
I had a feeling that Poker Face was going to be a show for me right from the start. With Rian Johnson being the creator and Natasha Lyonne being the star and with classic detective shows like “Columbo” influences. This show had all the makings of something that could be a ton of fun and it is one of the best crime dramas to be released in 2023.
The show is about a woman called, Charlie Cale who is played by Natasha Lyonne, before this I would have said that Orange is the New Black was my favorite performance of Natasha Lyonne’s, but now I am not so sure. She has just so much fun and chaotic energy that she is impossible not to love.
Charlie Cale is a bit of a mess. She works in a casino, but there is a mysterious death and now she is hauling ass across the country on the run. The thing is, Charlie has a very special ability that allows her to see when people are lying. This is not just a bull shit detector type thing, she can literally tell when someone is not telling the truth.
Charlie is on the run in her trusty Plymouth Barracuda and she meets a whole host of interesting characters. I just love the whole concept of this show as it is so much fun! Charlie ends up always falling into some kind of homicide mystery and she ends up helping solve it!
This show is the kind that makes you think and also makes you laugh. The way that Charlie will crack a case is often very amusing and clever. Each episode tells its own murder mystery, while furthering the trouble that Charlie is running away from. It makes for such a fun and interesting show to watch.
I referenced Columbo earlier, but I do also think there is a bit of Murder She Wrote about Poker Face as well. The way each episode is like its own murder that needs to be solved was something that my wife and I got a massive kick out of. It is the kind of show that is just a lot of fun to watch. The show is not scared of being violent, rude, and a bit sexual either which just added to the fun!
I do also have to talk about the casting here. Some characters do appear in more than one episode, but I had a blast at how each episode would have some kind of big-name actor in a guest-starring role. Dascha Polanco, John Ratzenburger, Simon Helberg, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Nick Nolte, and Ron Pearlman are a few of the guest stars that I got a huge kick out of.
Poker Face is such an awesome show and a show that could not be any easier for me to recommend to you. It was a show that we ended up watching all in one week, two episodes per day, Monday to Friday and we had a hell of a great time doing so. Do not miss out on this one, it truly is one of the best shows of 2023.
