Police Academy 6: City Under Siege Download

Say what you want about the franchise, but the fact that they were able to release six Police Academy movies over six years is pretty impressive. The way that they managed to get a new movie each year makes this one of the most prolific film series of the 80s! I am not saying that they are all amazing, far from it, but there is a certain 80s charm that this series has and I would say that Police Academy 6: City Under Siege is one of the movies that I like the best.

PA 6 Movie Review – A Nostalgic Movie Experience

This is something of a last hurrah for the series too. This would be the last appearance of characters that we grew to love (or at the very least like) in Hightower, Commissioner Hurst, Frackler, Hooks, and Proctor. Returning from Police Academy 5 is Matt McCoy as Nick Lassard, the nephew of Commandant Lassard.

After not being a huge fan of the fifth movie, I feel like Police Academy 6: City Under Siege had a bit more of the classic Police Academy charm. This time around there are a gang of jewel thieves called The Wilson Heights Gang who have been stealing jewels and causing chaos in the city. The police led by Captain Harris have failed to do anything about it so the governor has stepped in.

The Plot of Police Academy 6: City Under Siege

The Governor has brought in Commandant Lassard! Lassard brings in his nephew and his favorite Police Academy graduates to try and put a stop to this crime spree. This is very typical and silly Police Academy stuff and I got a few laughs and chuckles out of this one which I did not the previous movie.

A Scooby-Doo Style Twist

One of the things that I liked about Police Academy 6: City Under Siege was the whole reveal of who the mastermind of this criminal plot was! It was literally like something out of an episode Scooby Doo and that was something I got a massive kick out of. Yes, it is so ridiculous and stupid, but the whole series is built on wacky and slapstick humor so I found it to be very fitting.

A Fun Watch for Fans of the Franchise

The thing with this movie is that if you have watched the other five Police Academy movies and had fun with them, you will also have fun with this one. It is still nowhere near as good as that original movie, but I would say that I had more fun with this one than I have some of the others, I would probably put it on par with Mission to Moscow, perhaps a hair lower in regards to how much I enjoyed it.

The more I think about it, the more I dig what they tried to do with this movie. Police Academy 6: City Under Siege was released in 1989 and that was when the Police Academy animated series and action figures were released and from a personal point of view, that series and toys are MY Police Academy. With this movie not doing that well, the series was put on hold for a few years and it was the animated series in re-runs as well as the constant re-runs of the movies on TV that kept the series going in the early 90s.
