I didn’t exactly have the highest of expectations for Reminders of Him, but when I caught Lauren Graham in the trailer, who I loved in Parenthood, I decided to give this drama a try. To say that this is a predictable movie is a massive understatement. If you watch the trailer, I am pretty sure you know exactly how this movie is going to end! But that does not necessarily mean that it is a bad thing.

The Movie Review
Reminders of Him has a solid cast, and the movie has two likable and good-looking leads in Maika Monroe, who plays Kenna, and Tyriq Withers, who plays Ledger. I have to say I thought that it was kind of interesting that Tyriq Withers plays football players in two movies back to back, although, granted, he is an ex-football player here, but it is a fun bit of movie trivia.
Reminders of Him Storyline: Kenna’s Journey After Prison
Kenna and her boyfriend Scott were in a bad car accident that saw Scott lose his life. Kenna pleads guilty to vehicular manslaughter, and she is given a prison sentence as a result. Unbeknownst to her at the time, Kenna is actually pregnant with Scott’s child, and she gives birth while incarcerated, and she never gets to see her little girl, who is sent to live with Scott’s parents, Patrick and Grace.
After spending six years in prison, Kenna is released on probation and moves back to her hometown, where he tries to restart her life with the idea of being able to finally meet her daughter. She ends up finding a place to stay and a job at a grocery store, but while heading to the old bookshop that she and Scott used to like, she realizes that it is now a bar.
Romantic Drama and Emotional Conflict
In this bar is Ledger, and Ledger was Scott’s best friend. Now, this is kind of weird in that Ledger does not know at first who she is, as he was in the NFL while Scott and Kenna had a relationship. I have to say, what the heck was this plot point? Why did they decide that out of all the stories they could have given this guy to make it plausible that he did not know Keena was for him to be a football player in the NFL??? It just seems like such a weird thing to come up with.
There are sparks here, but Kenna is not convinced it is a good idea. Patrick and Grace are not keen on Keena seeing her daughter, and of course, a relationship with Ledger would make that situation even more complicated. Look, you know where this is going a mile away, and you do want Keena to get a happy ending, as you can tell that she is not a bad person at all. She ended up in a bad situation, and she sure as hell paid for it, but now she deserves the chance to be happy.
Is Reminders of Him Worth Watching?
I can see why people would like this movie, and if you do, more power to you. For me, this was pretty average stuff, and while it did have a happy ending, if I am being honest, it felt kind of flat. There is no way that I would take the time to watch this again, but if you watch the trailer and like the look of it, give it a try; it may click with you more than it did me. However, I do not know how you can watch that trailer and NOT know how the movie is going to end.
