I tend to be interested in most movies that A24 does, but The Drama is something very special. I cannot think of another movie trailer that managed to talk me into the cinema like The Drama did! I am usually complaining that movie trailers spoil things, and the reason for this is that they do! I have seen far too many of the best bits of a movie in their trailer, or some movies will pretty much have their whole story told in a three-minute trailer.

The Drama was released on April 3, 2026. You will be able to stream it from HBO Max on July 31.
The Movie Review
The Drama was different! The trailer showed two couples sitting at a table, and they decide to share what the worst thing each of them has done is. It starts with them laughing, and then the character that Zendaya plays says something that truly shocks the others! The thing is, the trailer does not spoil what she tells them at all! It leaves you guessing the whole time, and when the trailer came to an end, I simply had to know what she did!
Why The Drama’s Trailer Worked So Well
Before this, I saw a poster for this in my theatre, and the poster had Zendaya and Robert Pattinson on it, looking a little worse for wear in their wedding gear. Sure, those two being in it made me wonder what The Drama was, but not enough to make me care enough to look into it. Then, when I saw the trailer, I was 100 percent sold that this was a movie I had to see. I even asked one of the theatre staff when the movie was out, and she told me that I was not the first person to be interested in it after seeing the trailer.
Zendaya and Robert Pattinson Lead the Cast
Ok, so we have talked to death about the trailer, but what about the movie itself? Did that big reveal live up to it? Well, I am not going to tell you what the secret bad thing that she did was, but it honestly shocked the hell out of me, and I could have guessed 100 things, and that would not have been one of them. Zendaya’s Emma and Robert Pattinson’s Charlie have great chemistry together as a happy couple about to get married.
Seeing Charlie put together his vows shows just how much he loves her and how perfect they are for each other. Our other two main characters are Mike, who is Charlie’s best friend, and his best friend and Rachel, who is married to Mike and who is going to be Emma’s maid of honor. Mamoudou Athie and Alana Haim are great as Mike and Rachel; all four characters have a very believable friendship.
The Secret That Changes Everything
They all seem like a great group, and they are having fun until the decision to play a game where they share what the worst thing they each have done happens. As you would expect, this dramatically shakes up the foundation of the relationship between Emma and Charlie. More so, Charlie, Emma wants to just have things go on as normal, but Charlie cannot stop fixating on what he was told.
However, it also completely shatters it for Mike and Rachel as well, both of whom think that Charlie needs to get the hell away from Emma. Rachel, in particular, has some very strong views and for a very good reason, about this bombshell secret that Emma throws like a grenade at them all. It is like watching a car wreck that you simply cannot look away from, and you wonder just how it is all going to end.
Final Thoughts on The Drama
I thought that this was a pretty solid movie, and while I have seen better dark comedies, the secret that she drops really did shock me. Now, on the flip side of this, my wife really did not like this movie. She just kept saying, “Why would she tell them that?” and she also had issues with what she did as well. Which brings me to another point, I can see this being very triggering for some people, and I have even heard that some have said it is in poor taste. Honestly, I have a hard time arguing with that.
While I think that The Drama will be a very divisive movie, I, for one, thought that it was pretty good. I am not sure it would hold up to a second viewing, as once you know what her secret is, that big shock of the movie is gone. If you are even the slightest bit interested in this, do not spoil what her secret is; the movie will have far more impact if you do that.
