2006’s The Devil Wears Prada is one of my wife’s favorite movies of all time, so there was no way that we were not going to be seeing the sequel in the theatre. Coming 20 years after the first movie, I must admit, I thought that this was a completely unnecessary sequel, but I still thought that it could be a fun time. They managed to get the four key cast members back in Anne Hathaway, Meryl Streep, Stanley Tucci, and Emily Blunt, while adding a few fun new additions to the cast, too.
Where to Watch The Devil Wears Prada 2

The Movie Review
I think that revisiting these characters after 20 years is a pretty interesting way to go about things, as the world now is very different from what it was in 2006. Andy is a well-respected journalist, and she is just about to win an award, when she learns that she and her colleagues have been fired. Print and journalism have taken a step to the side for quick, short-form content without any real substance.
Revisiting Andy and Miranda in a Modern Media Landscape
Over at Runway magazine, things are not like they were 20 years ago. Hardly anyone actually reads Runway magazine anymore; people just visit the website and never really pay full attention to what is being said. Miranda still rules Runway magazine with an iron fist, but that fist is not quite as clenched thanks to run-ins with HR over the years about the way she speaks to people and the things that she says. Hey, she is still the boss who can strike fear into people, but there are a few fun moments where you can see her trying to navigate the way things are.
After giving a passionate speech, Andy goes a little bit viral, and she comes to the attention of the owner of Runway magazine, Irv, who insists she is hired to write meaningful content for the site and magazine. Of course, Miranda is not thrilled about this, but the awesome Nigel is very happy to have her back. Andy writes articles that, for those who read them, are very well received, but the problem is that not many people are reading them. Andy is tasked with doing a piece on Dior after an “incident,” and this is where she reunites with her frienemy from the first movie, Emily. Emily is just so much fun, and one of the best roles that Emily Blunt has ever done.
Why The Devil Wears Prada 2 Is Better Than Expected
Without going any further into it, we then have Andy trying to save Runway and, once again, find her place in this new world. Look, The Devil Wears Prada 2 is a movie that, on the surface, is completely unnecessary, but it was a very fun time, and while my wife did not agree with this, I preferred it to the original! I do not see how you could enjoy the first movie and not like this one. Although, while I did prefer it, I will admit this is a subjective opinion, and I could see why some may not.
Minor Complaints About The Devil Wears Prada 2
There were only two things that bothered me about the movie. First, the Diet Coke product placement is really on the nose. Here in the UK, Diet Coke is all in with the promotion of this movie, and seeing Diet Coke cans be prominent in some scenes was something that gave me a chuckle. Also, there is this subplot that feels a step below a subplot where Andy has a new relationship, and this whole thing could have been taken out of the movie, and it would not have made any difference.
Final Thoughts on The Devil Wears Prada 2
While I do have those two very minor complaints. For the most part, The Devil Wears Prada 2 was a movie that I had a fun time with. Seeing all four of our main characters in Andy, Miranda, Nigel, and Emily after all these years was great, and the crazy thing is, while this was something I thought was unnecessary, they kind of leave it open for a third movie, which I would not be against at all!
