RoboCop (1987)

As the poster said, RoboCop is part man, part machine, all cop, RoboCop! Growing up in the 80s RoboCop was a huge part of my childhood. I am lucky that my parents were not very observant in regard to what I was watching. However, before I saw the RoboCop movie, I actually played the Amiga game at my friend’s house. There was a part in the game where you had to shoot through a lady’s dress and it was the funniest thing I ever saw in a game.

The Movie Review

I would eventually get RoboCop for the NES and love it, it was a real favorite of mine on the system. Of course, after playing the game I was desperate to see the movie and it did not disappoint, RoboCop and ED-209 were the coolest things I had seen. I was all in on RoboCop and

RoboCop is just a great movie and one of those classic 80s movies that everyone seems to love. While I loved RoboCop as a kid, I think I have come to appreciate it even more as an adult. It is a brutal and over-the-top violent movie, but it has more to it than just RoboCop blowing away bad guys.

The Impactful Violence and Plot of RoboCop

Speaking of blowing away, the scene where Murphy gets gunned down was one of the craziest things I saw in a movie as a kid. The plot of the movie is about how Detroit has gone to hell and RoboCop has been created to try and bring law and order to the streets. They use the gun downed cop, Alex Murphy to create RoboCop and strip him of his memories so that he is just a pure robotic police machine.

The Characters and Themes That Define RoboCop

The corporation that is trying to run the city is about as dirty as you can get and RoboCop is put head to head with a crime boss that is played by Red Forman (Kurtwood Smith) from That 70s Show and That 90s Show which is so awesome. While there is a lot of action and great scenes in RoboCop, I think the reason this is a movie that has lasted all these years is the story.

Alex Murphy is a very likable character and as RoboCop starts to get fragments of his memory back, it gives the movie a lot more heart and makes it even better in my opinion. Yes, it is entertaining as hell in regards to it being a brutal, bloody action movie. However, I think that RoboCop has way more soul and personality than just that.

The Charm and Flaws of RoboCop’s Special Effects

I do think that ED-209 looks awesome when he is standing still, but when in motion, poor ED-209 does look a bit dated by today’s standards, to be fair, RoboCop did not exactly have the world’s biggest budget. I kind of see it as more charming than terrible, to be honest with you, but my son thought it was hilariously bad, but what does his generation know?

Conclusion: RoboCop, An All-Time 80s Classic

RoboCop is a movie that is an all-time 80s classic and I still love it. The funny thing is when I was a kid, I actually preferred RoboCop 2! However, these days, while I still like RoboCop 2, the original is far superior. If you are in the mood for some 80s nostalgia, you really cannot go wrong with RoboCop!
