Brought to us by Angel Studios who have made some amazing movies in recent years such as the very good, Cabrini which was recently released. Sight is the autobiographical story of Dr. Ming Wang one of the most respected eye surgeons in the world. I read the synopsis of this movie and thought that it sounded like a very interesting story, one that could really tug on the heartstrings while also making you think.

The Movie Review
A Shocking Opening
One thing I was not expecting was the start this movie had. Sight has a brutal opening that was truly shocking and not something I saw coming at all. The thing is, this does not actually set the tone for the movie as it slams on the break after this. I am not saying this is a terrible thing, but despite dealing with some very heavy things such as racism, abuse, and political unrest, the movie has a rather slow and chill approach to 90 percent of its story.
The Story of Dr. Ming Wang
This is the story of Dr. Ming Wang. Dr. Wang is a tremendous eye surgeon and he is played by Terry Chen. Wang emigrated to America to get away from the Cultural Revolution that happened in China. While he is a great eye surgeon, his skills are tested to the max when a young Indian girl who has suffered a very horrific injury shows up.
A Unique Challenge
At first, Wang is not sure that this poor young girl’s sight can be saved. However, Dr. Wang and his partner (played by Greg Kinnear) have to think outside of the box in order to save this lovely little girl’s sight. While Wang is trying to help this little girl, her attitude and personality also help him a great deal too.
Flashbacks to a Turbulent Past
Dr. Wang trying to save this little girl’s sight is not all that we have going on here. We also get to see Dr. Wang growing up in China when the brutal Cultural Revolution took place and how it threatened his dreams of being a doctor. The movie jumps back and forth between the time periods and I hate to sound harsh, but the stuff that was supposed to be in the past did not look super authentic.
A Modest Production
I think the reason I say that is because Angel Studios has made so many great-looking movies over the last couple of years, Cabrini which I already mentioned being a prime example. It feels like this is a movie that was made with a rather modest budget and they had to be very clever with the way they filmed it. It is not bad by any means, but it does have the “look” of a TV movie more than a theatrically released one if that makes sense.
An Emotional Journey
The whole time I was watching Sight I was certainly there in the moment and wanted to see what would come of this lovely little girl. I was also interested in Dr. Wang’s escape from China to America as well. This is a movie that on paper has a lot going on and while I certainly cared about what was going on. I must admit, apart from that opening section, the movie kind of plods along.
