Sting

I would say not amazing, but also not bad is the best way to describe the recent horror movie, Sting. We saw a trailer for this before Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes and as the wife and I love horror movies, we decided to check it out as I love to support a horror movie in the theatre. Plus, anything about a killer spider is well worth at the very least giving a chance in my humble opinion.

The Movie Review

A Giant Spider Stalking Residents

In the trailer, you see that Sting is about a giant spider that is stalking and killing the residents of a run-down apartment building. That is pretty much the entire plot of Sting to be honest with you, but that does not mean it is bad. While that is the core of what is going on here, there was still some stuff that I liked.

A Young Protagonist

Our main character is a young 12-year-old girl called Charlotte who finds a strange spider that can whistle to communicate with her when it is hungry. I really liked Charlotte as a character, she is a typical kid, but she is a cool artist and you can tell that she does deal with a lot at home. The young actress playing Charlotte truly did a wonderful job.

Family Dynamics

Charlotte lives with her mother, stepdad, and baby brother. I would say that Charlotte’s stepdad, Ethan is the other main character. I really liked the dynamic between Charlotte and Ethan and felt that they worked well together. You could tell that there was a deep and real love between the two. On the other hand, I really did not care for Charlotte’s mother at all as there was something very unlikable about her.

The Spider’s Rampage

It does not take long to realize that there is something wrong with this spider. It eats at a very fast rate and it is growing even faster, growing so large that it escapes from the container it is in and goes on its rampage. I will say that I enjoyed the way that we did not know for sure what the heck this spider was, it added a bit of mystery about it.

A By the Numbers Horror Movie

The thing with Sting is that it is a very by the numbers kind of horror movie. There was a moment where I thought that this was going to be pretty dark and gruesome with its ending, but that turned out to not be the case. I am not hating on the movie for that at all, but it did feel like a movie that never got out of second gear to go at top speed and be really wild if that makes sense.

Final Thoughts

I am still glad that I made the effort to go and see this in the theatre and to be honest with you, I would not be against watching this again. Plus, it did leave things open for a sequel and if there was one, I would probably check it out. Unless you are really in the mood to go and see a horror movie at the theatre, you may be better off waiting for this to hit streaming.
