Last year I looked at a faith based movie called War Room that was made by the Kendrick Brothers. Well, I am not sure if they are going for some faith-based cinematic universe, but The Forge is set in the same universe as War Room as the movie does feature characters from that movie. It is not a massive tie-in, but it is interesting that they would do that here when they have not done this in any of their other movies.

The Movie Review
So yeah, The Forge is a faith-based movie and it is an ok movie and one that I am sure many of us can relate to. It is about a young man called Isaiah who has finished high school, but he has no direction in his life at all. All Isaiah wants to do is play basketball, play video games, and just goof off with his friends, he is in some real danger of heading down the wrong path if he does not find some direction soon.
Isaiah’s Struggle and the Influence of Family
Isaiah’s poor mother is getting sick of him not doing anything so she gives him an ultimatum. Basically, his mother tells him that he needs to find a job and something to do or he has to find someplace else to live. Being a directionless teenager or having a teenager who seems like they do not have any direction is certainly something many of us can relate to one way or the other.
Isaiah’s Potential for Change
They do a decent job of showing both sides of Isaiah in that we can see that he has a good heart, but we also see that he has the potential to be a lazy guy and possibly even go down the wrong path. Well, Isaiah does go out and look for a job and he finds one with a fitness company.
The Role of Jonathon
Isaiah meets a man called Johnathon while waiting for his interview and he tells him that he does not actually want to be at this place. Turns out, Jonathon is the head of this company and he takes a liking and interest in Isaiah and basically takes him under his wing.
A Predictable but Satisfying Conclusion
The thing with the faith-based movies that the Kendrick Brothers make is that they are quite predictable and that is the case here with The Forge. We see Isaiah become part of this group and he does open up, find purpose in his life, and find his faith. It is the kind of movie where you kind of know where it is going right from the moment Isaiah meets Johnathon.
Final Thoughts on The Forge’s Length
For me, I think that The Forge lasted a little longer than it needed to. This clocks in at a tad over two hours and I truly think you could have shaved 15 to 20 minutes off this movie and you would have not lost anything in the process. To be fair, many people who love faith based movies seem to adore this one, but for me, it was ok and I liked it as much as I have the other Kendrick Brothers movies that I have seen.
