For kids who grew up in the 80s The Goonies is an all time classic, I would have a hard time imagining that there is anyone who does not like The Goonies, there is honestly nothing to dislike! With the trio of Steven Spielberg, Chris Columbus, and Richard Donner it is no wonder that The Goonies became the all time classic that it is revered as today.

The Movie Review
The Ultimate Coming-of-Age Story
Where do I even start with The Goonies? This is the ultimate coming of age story about a group of kids having what they think will be their last weekend of fun together. Young Mikey and his family are having to move away so his friends come round to hang out for what they feel is the last time.
This is the ultimate crew as we have Mikey, Mouth, Data, and Chunk. I used to imagine myself as part of this crew and I am sure many other people did as well. As well as the youngsters, we also have Mikey’s older brother Brand and his friends, Andy and Stef. It is so awesome how a few years back, Josh Brolin who plays Brand, dressed up like him for Halloween.
A Thrilling Treasure Hunt
The gang is hanging out in Mikey’s attic when they find a gold doubloon and One-Eyed Willies long lost treasure map. The gang decides to go on one last adventure to try and find One-Eyed Willies treasure and that is the setup for the movie. It is impossible not to get caught up in the wonder and excitement of these kids as they are planning this big and wild adventure.
However, the place that they think they need to start from just so happens to be the hideout of the Fratelli’s, a gang who are on the run from the law. The Goonies end up captured, but all, except Chunk, manage to escape. The scene with Chunk confessing to all the stuff he did is hilarious as is the stuff where he befriends Sloth who joins them and becomes a Goonie!
An Unforgettable Adventure
From here we have this epic adventure that sees the kids trying to avoid the traps and dangers while trying to find the treasure and stay one step ahead of the Fratelli’s too! What more can I possibly say about Goonies? This is an all time classic and I would wager that I have seen this movie at least 50 times as I would watch it over and over again as a kid.
The Goonies and Its Timeless Appeal
I also think that this is a timeless movie too. I have tried to get my son to watch many movies that I grew up loving as a kid in the 90s and more than a few of them have fallen flat. The Goonies on the other hand is one that he loved, this and also Gremlins are the two 80s movies that I exposed him to that are firm favorites of his today. If you want a fun movie to watch, you cannot go wrong with The Goonies, actually, you will struggle to beat it!
Why The Goonies Should Stay as It Is
As well as being a great movie, I also want to take a moment to talk about The Goonies II. No, this is not a movie you have missed, but an awesome NES game that I loved as a kid. I got this for Christmas and while it was hard as hell and very confusing, I loved it! To me this is the only Goonies II that we need, we do not need an unnecessary sequel or a remake of any kind. Hollywood needs to just leave The Goonies as it is.
