The Kissing Booth was released in 2018 and was a pretty big hit for Netflix. Even those who were not normally into this kind of “teen” romance story could have a fun time with it. As it was such a success for the streaming service, Netflix fast-tracked a sequel and here we are just two years later with The Kissing Booth 2.

The Movie Review
The first thing that they managed to do right here was getting the main cast all back. Joey King as Elle, Joel Courtney as Lee, and Jacob Elordi as Noah all reprise their roles. They even got Molly Ringwald back as Lee and Noah’s mom so that is pretty cool. By the way, it is a major sign that I am getting old that Molly Ringwald is now old enough to play the mom to teenagers!
While I thought that the plot of Elle having a thing for her best friend Lee’s older brother Noah was kind of fun in the first movie. The plot this time around is a bit more complex. Noah has moved away to college and Elle is now a senior so along with the pressure of a long-distance relationship they also have a new chapter of their lives to deal with too.
Lee has a girlfriend and there is a hunky new dude at school called Marco that despite her best-efforts Elle is attracted to. As well as Elle having her head turned by Marco, things are not exactly smooth sailing for Noah at college either. After taking a trip to see him, Elle is shocked to find he is friends with a hot college girl and she is sure there is something going on.
It is probably so easy to just blow this movie off as another teen romance movie and it does have that element to it. However, I feel that The Kissing Booth 2 deals with Elle and Lee growing older and entertaining a new stage of their life very well. They are best friends and to me, this was the best relationship in the movie. Their plans to go to college together may not happen and that does feel a bit sad.
The movie ends on a bit of a cliffhanger. This means that if this movie does as well as the first one, I am sure we can expect a part three to this saga. To be honest, I would actually welcome it. This is a pretty charming movie that has some laughs, but it also has a lot of heart.
It offers more than most other teen romantic comedies and if you are looking for something to watch on Netflix you can do a lot worse. Just make sure you watch The Kissing Booth 1 before this as your attachment to the characters is what makes this second part such a fun and interesting movie.
