The Lost City (2022)

Brought to us by the Nee brothers who also had a hand in the script, The Lost City is an action comedy that was way better than it had any right to be. It had a fantastic cast, lots of fun action and more emotional depth than the trailers let on. By the time the credits rolled on this one, I was thoroughly entertained!

The Movie Review

Our two main leads are Alan who is played by Channing Tatum and Loretta who is played by Sandra Bullock. Loretta is a romance writer and, she has just launched her new (and last in this series) book and is about to go on a book tour to promote it. While Loretta is the writer, most of the attention goes to the handsome cover star of her books, Alan!

The two do not exactly get along and they have a pretty big row. This brings us to the villain of the movie, Abigail Fairfax who is played expertly by Daniel Radcliffe. He is a complete nutjob, kind of like an exaggerated James Bond villain and I found him to be one of the highlights of the entire movie.

You see, Loretta writes about a very special place called The Lost City of D as she was once an archeologist. This leads Abigail to think that Loretta can help him find the lost treasure that is located there. This is why he kidnapped her and what ultimately sets the entire main plot of the movie up.

Alan gives chance and tries to save her and even calls in Jack Trainer to help. Jack Trainer is the ultimate action man and you can just tell that Brad Pitt is having a whole ton of fun in this role.

Now, the trailers for The Lost City make it seem like your typical romantic comedy action movie and to a degree it is. There are plenty of jokes, awkward moments between Alan and Loretta, there is a whole will they or won’t they thing, and so on. However, one thing that took me by surprise was Loretta and how much depth her character had. She is actually quite depressed as she lost her husband and this was not something I expected to see in the movie. Some might say that it feels out of place, but I think that it added a great deal to her character.

The action scenes are a great deal of fun and as always, it is impossible not to love Channing Tatum. I will admit that I went into this with fairly low expectations, but I was pleasantly surprised. From start to end it is a lot of fun. I highly recommend you watch this with your significant other. You go have a nice meal or order some takeout and then watch this, the perfect date night!
