The X-Files is a show that I was all in on right from the start back in 1993. My and my friends were obsessed with this show and each week we could not wait to watch and then discuss the latest episode. It is crazy to think that as I write this, 30 years have passed, 30 years! Where does the time go? Anyway, thanks to Disney Plus, I have been working my way through the show which is my third watch of the entire series.

The Movie Review
Mulder and Scully are one of the most iconic duos in television history! Mulder and Scully are FBI agents who are assigned to the X-Files. This is pretty much the basement of the FBI building and the X-Flies department is something that is not taken seriously by most of the other people in the FBI.
I think the early seasons with Mulder and Scully being so different are very well done. Mulder believes in pretty much everything, Scully on the other hand is a skeptic and places her faith in science more. It makes for a fun and interesting dynamic, especially as Scully starts to come around and realize that there is more to the world and universe than she believed.
One of the things I love about The X-Files is the way that each season is formatted. You have an ongoing story arc that will be the main focus of a season and weave in and out of the 20-plus episodes. The X-Files always did a great job of keeping the viewer hooked and wanting to know what happens next.
However, as well as the main stories that were the show’s focus, The X-Files also has some awesome “monster of the week” episodes where a case is taken on and then solved by the end of the episode. Some of these are my favorite episodes of the entire series and this approach lets the creators of the show get very creative with some of the stuff that they came up with.
While the main focus is Mulder and Scully, we also have a great cast of supporting characters that would weave in and out. Director Skinner, The Lone Gunmen, Cancer Man, and Alex Krycek are the ones that always spring to mind when I think about the great episodes of The X-Files.
While many people think of aliens when they think about The X-Files, monsters, ghosts, espionage, terrorists and even some funny stuff were all fair game for this show. Before we knew everything about a show before it aired, with The X-Files, you never for sure knew what the next episode was going to be all about until you watched it.
Now, I want to get on my soapbox here and talk about seasons 8 and 9. Many people say that when Mulder left the show sucked… that is not the case at all. When Mulder left, Monica Reyes and John Doggett were introduced and I think that season 8 has some of the best monster-of-the-week style episodes.
Reyes and Doggett were great together and as crazy as this sounds, at the time I felt they may have been better off getting rid of Scully too, and just starting fresh with Doggett and Reyes! So do not listen to the people who say the show went to hell once Mulder left, it was still a lot of fun.
The original run of The X-Files had 9 seasons and a movie. We also got another movie in 2008 and then two more series, one in 2016 and one in 2018 and they were a lot of fun. I know that the show is a massive commitment (most seasons have over 20 episodes) but it is a commitment that is well worth it, even if the earlier seasons are a bit dated now.
