They Will Kill You was one of those movies that I thought could be a surprise hit for 2026. It had a fun promotional campaign, it starred the awesome Zazie Beetz, and it just looked like a wild and good time. For me, I was getting vibes similar to the likes of Ready or Not and Happy Death Day so that just made me even more excited to check it out.

The Movie Review
To be honest, by the time the credits rolled, They Will Kill You had been pretty much what I expected. It is a crazy and very over-the-top time that was fun, but at the same time, I would not put it at the same level as the likes of aforementioned Ready or Not or Happy Death Day. Although, to be fair, that is two awesome movies that kind of caught lightning in a bottle.
Asia Rivers and the Search for Maria
The movie starts ten years prior, where we meet Asia Rivers (Zazie Beetz), who is a teenager or in her early 20s. Asia and her younger sister, Maria, have fled from their abusive father, but he catches up to them. Asia shoots her abusive father, and when the cops arrive, she bolts. They take Maria into care, and Asia ends up doing time in jail. While Asia is in jail, Maria bounces around the foster system, and when Asia gets out, she tries to track her down.
The Virgil and Its Deadly Secrets
Asia’s search for Maria brings her to a rather strange place, The Virgil. The Virgil is a historical building in New York where the ultra elite live, and Maria is working here as a maid. Asia manages to get herself inside The Virgil by posing as a potential new maid who wants to work there, but it is all just a ruse so she can try to find her sister.
Zazie Beetz Brings the Action
Well, pretty much right away, things go to hell! While trying to catch some sleep, Asia is assaulted, but it turns out that while in jail, she learned how to fight and is a total badass. The violence and gore in They Will Kill You is just a ton of fun and the absolute highlight of the movie for me. Zazie Beetz may be easy on the eyes, but she is so damn cool and kicks all kinds of ass.
Satanic Cult Horror and Immortality
Turns out that all this ass kicking as for nothing, as these are not normal people. Asia has found herself amongst a cult of Satan worshipers who perform human sacrifices in exchange for immortality! Her sister has been taken in by this cult, and now, she is going to try to save her from it.
Cast and Tone of They Will Kill You
While Zazie Beetz is the star, I also have to mention some of the members of this cult, such as Tom Felton and Heather Graham…. And Heather Graham’s eyeball who are awesome! This is a very tongue-in-cheek, not taking itself too seriously kind of movie, and for the most part, it works really well.
Final Thoughts on They Will Kill You
I had fun with this, but I will admit, I thought that I was going to really love this, but instead, I kind of just liked it. It was more of a case of style over substance as the actual plot was not that great. However, I do think that They Will Kill You may be the kind of movie that I like more on a second viewing, and I would not be shocked to see if this turns into some kind of cult classic. I for sure will pick this up on 4K, but I think it may be one of those where I do wait for it to drop in price before I do.
