Trolls – the Plot of the Movie
The film starts off as the viewers are introduced to a town inhabited by joyous trolls who are ruled by King Peppy. On the other end, there are Bergens who are always miserable and feed on trolls to make themselves happy once a year in a festival known as Trollstice.
Luckily, Peppy along with the rest of the trolls manage to escape and the Chef who was in charge hosting Trollstice becomes banished by the Bergen king Gristle Sr. 20 years later, Princess Poppy, King Peppy’s daughter hosts a party in celebration of their escape from the Bergens.
Despite the warnings of the gray troll named Branch, the party continues only to attract the attention of Chef who kidnaps a number of trolls including a Zen troll named Creek. Assisted by Branch, Poppy goes after Chef towards Bergen Town which is now ruled by King Gristle Sr.’s son, Gristle Jr. Once inside the Bergen king’s castle, Poppy witnesses Creek being eaten but still maintains hope that she is alive.
Meanwhile, Poppy discovers that the rest of the trolls are guarded by a scullery maid named Bridget. Poppy promises Bridget to set up a date with Gristle Jr. in exchange for her friends’ release, to which she agrees. Soon, it is revealed that Creek is alive and have joined forces with Chef who captures the other trolls from Troll Village.
Poppy becomes sad and disappointed before Branch begins to sing, after which he confesses his love for her. Branch and her friends convince the Bergens that they too can be happy without having to eat the trolls, however, in a desperate attempt, Chef tries to kill the trolls only to end up being knocked into a serving cart which then rolls down out of Bergen Town. The film ends as Poppy is declared the queen of the trolls as both species celebrate.
The Productions of Trolls
This is one of those films which uplifts all its viewers through its brightly colored animation. The troll characters were inspired and based on troll dolls created by Thomas Dam, a Danish woodcarver. The film features both 2D and 3D animation with the artists physically creating the look through scissors before being shot and animated using Adobe After Effects. One of the most challenging tasks the animators faced was designing the glitter on the trolls.
Moving on to the film’s official soundtrack, Justin Timberlake served as the executive producer for the film’s music who released the soundtrack called Can’t Stop This Feeling! on 6th May 2016. The song went on to reach number 1 in the official charts of over 17 countries including the USA and Canada.
The Bottom Line
Overall, Trolls is a colorful film that instantly catches the eye of its viewers through its animation. Although criticized by a few groups for its overuse of vibrant colors, the film still managed to generate over $346 at the box office, making it worth a watch.
