Netflix has had some big hits in 2025, and I think that Untamed is up there as one of the best original series that they have released this year. This is a wonderful thriller that has a great cast, a cool setting, and it kept me guessing all the way until the end. Best thing is, Netflix has already announced a second season of Untamed, hopefully, it will come quicker than a lot of their other shows do, as I feel these days, follow-up seasons from Netflix take forever to come out!

The Movie Review
Untamed Series Plot and Setting
The premise of the story is this. Set in Yosemite National Park, a young woman who is referred to as Jane Doe, falls off the mountain and gets tangled up in some climbers’ gear. This opening scene is just insane and had me on the edge of my seat with worry for these people. Well, this young woman is already dead, and they need to call the authorities, and that is where our main character comes in.
Eric Bana Shines as Kyle Turner
Eric Bana plays the role of park ranger, Kyle Turner, who is actually a special agent and not just a regular park ranger. Turner is called in to investigate the death of this woman, and that is the basis for everything that follows. I would put this up there as the best work that Eric Bana has ever done!
A Deeply Layered Character Study
Turner is a very complex character. Turner is fantastic at his job, and he starts to piece together what happened and who this young woman was. However, he is also deeply flawed as he has an ex-wife with whom he shares a rocky relationship with, thanks to a tragedy that occurred a few years earlier.
Strong Supporting Roles Enhance Untamed
Now, Turner is not alone; he is paired with a rookie park ranger in, Lily Santiago, who plays the role of Naya Vasquez. Vasquez is a great character; she is a single mother who has transferred from LA with her son to escape her husband. I think that the show does a wonderful job of making Vasquez be just as important as Turner. The way that she grows into becoming a park ranger is fantastic, and there is a scene with her falling into a mine that was just so awesome.
Untamed Features an Incredible Ensemble Cast
I am not going into spoilers here, but Untamed has a great supporting cast too, with the likes of Sam Neil and Rosemary DeWitt, just to name a couple. I guess you could say that the show is about the murder of a young woman, and that may be the catalyst for all of that happens. However, the twists, turns, and old wounds that this show rips open are just incredible.
Yosemite National Park Becomes a Character
Untamed is easily one of the best-looking shows of the year. The setting of Yosemite Park is awesome, and the show is just wonderfully shot. It kind of makes you want to go to this amazing national park, but at the same time, it freaks you out with how many people go missing there. I know that this is cheesy to say, but the Yosemite Park setting is almost like a character in itself.
Perfect Length for a Tight Story
There are only six episodes of the show, but I think this is the perfect length for the story that they are trying to tell here. I ended up watching the whole show in just two sittings as I was so entertained by it, and I needed to know what would happen next. I have watched a lot of good TV this year, and this is up there are one of the best shows that I have seen. As I said, it has been greenlit for a second season with Bana returning as Turner. I just hope it does not take too long for them to get this out.
