We Live in Time is a romantic drama that is a prime example of a “chick flick” that is not meant in a disparaging way at all! This was a fantastic movie about life and the joys and heartbreaks that come with it. This is a movie that is so easy to put yourself into and in my theatre, there were a lot of tears as the credits started to roll.

The Movie Review
A Non-Linear Love Story
I am someone that loves a good chick flick and We Live in Time is certainly a good one, probably one of the best ones I have seen in quite some time. I was interested in seeing this as I heard that it was a story told in a “non-linear” way. From the trailer, I did not really see this, but when you watch the movie, it all makes sense.
Incredible Chemistry Between the Leads
A huge part of the reason why this movie works is our two leads. Andrew Garfield (he is The Amazing Spider-Man), playing the role of Tobias, and Florence Pugh (check her out as Yelena Belova in Black Widow or as Princess Irulan in Dune: Part Two) playing the role of Almut are just incredible and they have fantastic chemistry. Florence Pugh is easily one of the best actresses around today and Andrew Garfield is that perfect blend of geeky, charming, and handsome that he is so easy to like.
A Clever and Heartfelt Plot
The basics of the story here are that Almut is a chef who ends up hitting Tobias with her car. Feeling bad, Almut stays with him in the hospital and takes him to her restaurant for a meal. Now, I do not want to go into spoilers here, but this is not what you think and the way that the movie is presented to us is so very clever.
We get to see the ups and downs of their relationship. Them falling in love, finding a home, starting a family, it is all good. The movie does such a great job of showing you the highest of highs that these two had and as I said, the chemistry between Florence Pugh and Andrew Garfield is so great that it is impossible not to get invested in this story.
However, while we have the highest of highs, the movie is also pretty damn brutal as well and it is going to make you smile, but it is also going to rip your heart out too. There are some real standout scenes in the movie, let me tell you after watching this, you may not want to go in your local gas station’s bathroom again!
The Supporting Cast
If I did have to say something about the movie that I did not like it was the supporting cast. Hey, there is nothing wrong with the supporting cast at all and they all do a good job, but the supporting cast is given very little time to shine. This is a movie that is firmly about its two stars and the rest of the cast are kind of just there. To be honest, it does not matter as this is Almut and Tobias’s story, but I did think it was worth mentioning.
A Must-Watch Romantic Drama
This is one of those movies that I am so glad I was able to fit in. We are entering a pretty busy time of year for movie releases and it is so hard to go and see them all. Thankfully, We Live in Time came out just before the big holiday rush so my theatre had it on a few times per day for a week. If you are looking to be uplifted and also have your heart broken, I highly recommend this.
