What an awesome movie this was! I found this on DVD at a local used media store for the grand price of 1 British pound! As I am a big fan of Harrison Ford, I decided to take a chance on it as I had never seen it before. Harrison Ford and a thriller go together perfectly and I would put this one up there as a bit of a hidden gem. I enjoyed it so much I decided to see if I could get the Blu-Ray cheap. Turns out this is not a hugely released movie and from what I could see, only certain parts of the world got this on Blu-Ray.

The Movie Review
This is from 1985, but it never felt dated at all. Harrison Ford plays the role of a cop called Book. Book is a tough and honest cop and he ends up looking after an Amish women called Rachel and her son Samuel. Rachel is played by Kerry McGillis who was quite the bombshell during this time in the 80s so seeing her as an Amish woman was kind of cool.
A Fantastic Cast and Trivia
The movie has a fantastic cast with the likes of Danny Glover and Josef Sommer. However, when it comes to the cast of Witness, there is actually a really fun bit of movie trivia. This would be the very first theatrical role for Viggo Mortensen (who you might know as Aragorn from The Lord of the Rings) which is something I think is pretty cool.
A Crime Thriller with Depth
While in a Philadelphia train station, Samuel witnesses the murder of an undercover cop and it puts him and his mom as a target. Thankfully, they meet Book who takes on the case. The thing is, this goes deeper than just an undercover cop getting blown away! Turns out that there is some real police corruption going on here and Samuel and Rachel will be killed to keep that a secret…. As will Book!
This is a fun thriller and there are some great moments where it takes Book a while to figure out who is in on this and who is not. Book has to go and live with the Amish people and lay low for a while and he fits in great as he is skilled with his hands. That is kind of fun as the story was that Harrison Ford would have been a carpenter had he not become an actor.
Romance and Suspense
While the stuff with Book and Rachel developing feelings for each other is predictable, it does add some extra tension and a bit of romance to the movie. Book takes to the Amish way of life quite well and is popular, but due to the romantic feelings Rachel has for him, this does lead to some jealous eyes. Not only that, at the end of the day, Book is a city cop so he does end up clashing with the Amish way of life, despite his best efforts.
Why You Should Watch Witness
Book is a really good character. Harrison Ford will always be Han Solo to me, but the truth is, he is pretty much great at everything he does. He has played so many great characters over the years and even though I may be the better part of 40 years late to the party, Book has become a real favorite of mine. If you have never seen this one and you like a good crime/cop thriller, give it a try, I was entertained from start to end.
